I used to dine-in at Jayna Gyro once per week, but for the past two weeks, something changed for the worse. A new blonde employee started working there, and she was incredibly rude to me.
During our first interaction, when I asked her for the spicy sauce while she hurriedly dropped the food off as though my party and I were an inconvenience, she cut me off before I had the chance to finish my question and said "it's there," pointing to the orange spicy aioli on my plate, and quickly walked away, not even giving me a chance to clarify the fact that I wanted the spicier red sauce sitting behind the bar. If she had already given it to me, why would I waste time asking her? When she came back to drop off more food at our table, I asked her again for the spicy red sauce with chilis, trying to explain myself, and she said "oh you mean the hot sauce" in an incredibly irritated tone, as though I was wrong for referring to the hot sauce as spicy sauce. Isn't hot sauce spicy by definition? I had asked numerous different employees at Jayna for spicy sauce before, and all of them knew what I meant without being accusatory.
The second week, I ordered my usual beef and lamb gyro pita with sauce on the side, and the blonde lady was there again. This time, when she brought my food to the table, there was tzatziki sauce drizzled on my food, even though I ordered sauce on the side... When I politely told her that, she annoyedly said "okay" and took the food away without even attempting to muster an apology. During the five seconds she paused before saying "okay," it even seemed like she was trying to find the words to accuse me of doing something wrong again, because she was that irritated.
Additionally, everyone at my table of four asked for sauce on the side during this second visit. When she brought our orders, she only brought enough sauce for one person (one little cup of tzatziki sauce, and one little cup of aioli) and never interacted with us again, not even allowing for the opportunity to ask for the remainder of our sauces. We had to go up to the counter and ask the employee there for our sauce, because it seemed as though the blonde employee's focus was on items other than bringing us complete and correct orders.
Later, a much nicer male employee (who I've seen many times before) brought my food over and provided a high level of service to myself and my party. This new female employee seems to treat customers selectively, as I noticed that she was incredibly friendly and chatty to one of the other customers, but so rude to me for no apparent reason.
I am not coming back to this place solely because of her rude behavior and terrible service. All of the other employees I have interacted with during my several dozen visits to Jayna Gyro have been friendly and courteous. Unfortunately, their presence seems to have been replaced by this blonde employee, who doesn't seem to have the words "thank you" or "sorry" in...
Read moreI have never had Gyro before, so this review is based upon a first time experience. Hence, I do not have anything to compare it to. I ordered the chicken Gyro Bowl with rice and an order of their Chocolate Balaklava…All to-go (Take Out). The bowl is large and stuffed with ingredients. Going around the bowl there is rice placed sort of in the middle and the chicken is placed on top. Then there is Red cabbage that is sliced thin, sliced tomato, black olives and sliced Pita bread. The chicken is very moist and flavorful. It would seem that the Greeks know where the seasoning is, as the chicken was very good. The only drawbacks were that you do not get a lot of chicken. I actually got more white rice and chopped cabbage than chicken. Also, the Pita Bread is amazing. I would go back and order just a slice of that, as it was soft and supple. Again, the only drawback is that you only get 4 slices of the Pita Bread, and each piece is triangle shaped. The slices are about the size of a Doritos corn chip. As the Pita Bread sits inside the bowl, it soaks up the sauce and moisture from the rice. It would be great if they served the bread on the side, and one can use the bread to mop up the goodness at the bottom of the bowl.
Now, I have had Balaklava before and those were good. However, their Chocolate Balaklava was amazingly sweet and gooey, in a good way. Now, you only get three pieces and that is about all you need. More than that will cause a diabetic coma. The only gripe I have about the Chocolate Balaklava is that it is about $8.00 for three pieces. That is a little high in my opinion; however I can say that I have tasted it. Would I buy the Chocolate Balaklava again,… probably not. However I will go back for the chicken Gyro Bowl. Oh, they also have a full bar and they can make “To Go” cocktails that are meant to be sealed up, until you get home, obviously. Overall, I will go back for the chicken Gyro Bowl and I would like to try a few more things on their menu. I give them 4.5 Stars! They are a little pricy, yet the food is good and the quality of the ingredients and preparation is...
Read moreI had an amazing experience at this restaurant. The staff are very friendly, and their service was very good. The atmosphere was very good. It looked beautiful, there were outdoor spots as well. The food itself was amazing. As someone who loves eastern Mediterranean food, theirs is very food. None of it felt like it was lessened to appeal to a broader audience.
Ive has their chicken gyro (both with lavash and pita), fries, lamb gyro and lemonade. All of it was very good. The chicken was well seasoned, and cooked properly. Usually when people call something a gyro or shawarma, they don't actually use the thinly sliced meat that you should find, which was a welcome surprise. It had a very nice texture to it as well. Both breads were very good, but if you're just looking for an easy meal get the lavash. The bread comes from Armenia but is common throughout the eastern Mediterranean as well. The pita option is not a wrap which makes it harder to eat, but it's still very good.
The fries were not overly complex and very good. They weren't the kind of fries you'd get from McDonald's. They were potato cubes seasoned with various spices, and have the option of feta cheese on top of them. They also came with a sauce (I assume spicy aioli).
Their lemonade was good, but it was difficult to finish for me since I'm not good with sugar. It was a mistake on my part, not the lemonade itself. It was different from your usual lemonade, and had a piece of lemon and mint in it. It was quite refreshing
Overall I think this is a great restaurant, and one that I'm going to come to again. I've been to many other Mediterranean restaurants in the Sacramento area, but none have...
