Nice four night stay at unit #808 in the Capri By The Sea which I rented through Airbnb. Agree with the other reviewers who lauded the view. It is magnificent. You are on the eighth floor of a 12 floor beachfront hotel/condo complex. The Capri is at the beginning of the beach trail which starts at Pacific Beach and runs three miles to the end of Mission Beach. I walked down to the end of Mission Beach my first morning here. The Capri is the only beach front high rise in Pacific Beach and Mission Beach. There are beautiful views looking both up and down the beach. It’s like being on the bow of a big ship.
The location is convenient to many restaurants and bars. The Airbnb host suggested Oscar’s Mexican Seafood. Good recommendation! The unit is also within walking distance to a grocery store. I had a great massage at a place a few blocks away. While there are myriad conveniences nearby, the only thing that I heard at night was the wonderful sound of the waves.
But having a car is optimal if you want to explore the area beyond Pacific and Mission beaches. Torrey Pines Reserve, Cabrillo National Monument and its beach trail, La Jolla, and Balboa Park, are all very nice. The Capri parking garage is easily accessible. I found the traffic in the area to be relatively light but I’m from an urban area and used to traffic.
The unit is nice but definitely not luxurious. The view is luxurious. And the unit is large. The Capri was built in 1973 and it was very controversial because of its height. After it opened, building height restrictions were implemented which explains why it is the only beachfront high rise. Many of the units apparently have been fully renovated. There also apparently are time shares and time share resales based on the sales place next door to the Capri. This unit has had significant renovation but in my opinion could use more work in the master bedroom and elsewhere. In addition to some finish work, the unit needs to be painted. The furniture in the master is in poor shape and needs replacing. Better window treatments would help keep the unit cooler during the day. The flip side of the awesome views facing west over the beach is that the sun beating against the windows all day — even with the shades pulled down — makes the unit very hot. Having said that, it was fine for me as I was not expecting a luxurious accommodation and these weren’t show stoppers. I wasn’t hanging around inside the unit during the day and as soon as the sun goes down, everything cools quickly.
The pool is separate from the Capri, only about a minute walk up Missouri Street. I didn’t use the pool but I noticed very few lounge chairs. I also noticed very few people so maybe not an issue getting a lounger. Not sure.
The ocean here in August is perfect for beginner surfers. Lessons are available. If you are from a place with hot summers keep in mind that the ocean here never gets very warm. The average August ocean temperature is 69F.
In the lobby you will notice that most of the units appear to be administered by Allseason Resorts. Units are rented through a number of websites in addition to Airbnb. Based on reviews on these other websites, it strikes me that unit 808 is likely one of the better units. I don’t know for sure, just my impression. The price seemed competitive and fair based on what I saw.

Read moreOverall a great stay in unit 607. We love the Capri and staying here. But this trip was not without its faults.
Let’s start from the beginning. We were arriving early and had to call three times before someone answered the phone. Were told he would call us when the condo was ready (which he did). Hours later we get a call saying they had missed a call from my number I told them yes and that we were waiting for a call back and she told us he would call us, obviously lacking communication skills here. Smooth check in and the gentleman was very pleasant but then we can’t even get our very reasonably sized vehicle into the “parking spot” honestly if you dive anything bigger than an ultra compact car you aren’t getting into the spot it is barely 6’’ 3” wide if that and once you are in it the driver may be able to get out. Get to the room and wonderful view as always and it has been nicely updated and has some extra box fans if you get too warm. Get to the evening and going to be and my wife notices a “divot” in the bed. It is a split king and not a comfortable one. Day three comes and we are out of toilet paper some how turns out we were stocked with on roll for four people. Go down stairs and the door is shut, ask security if he has access to their supplies as we are out of toilet paper he walks back towards there area and the woman says she will have some sent up (why not give it to me now who knows) 20 minutes goes by and the polite gentleman shows up and apologizes. Let’s head to the “heated” pool, yeah it isn’t. It is also filled with sand and everywhere around the pool is sandy. Go to check out and again the door is shut. Talk to security and go to hand him the keys and the woman comes out takes them never asked how out stay was never thanked us for staying nothing. Just plain rude.
So will we be back to the Capri, yes. We will be back with All Seasons, maybe but after this stay with rude service (not to mention the leak we had that took hours to remedy in the bedroom last stay without so much as an apology, we won’t even get to the hours that I had to spend to get ahold of someone), maybe. Will we ever stay in 607 again, no because of the...
Read moreIn early March 2025 we spent four nights in Capri by the Sea 710. We had chosen this lodging option after doing only a little bit of research, and ultimately, we could not have been happier with it. The proximity to the ocean made the trip. The views are constant, like you are sitting next to the Pacific no matter where you are within the unit.
The surrounding area is walkable with lots of shopping and good restaurants, plus shops for renting bikes or surfing equipment. A Ralph's grocery store five or six blocks away. We did not rent a car, but the best of La Jolla to the north and Mission Beach to the south are only a long walk or a $10 Lyft/Uber away.
The unit does feel noticeably aged/weathered. It does not have the shine of top tier hotel, but the unparalleled view more than makes up for this. Everything was clean, well kept, and adequate. The unit was spacious; we were a party of three but would not have felt crowded had we been six. It may be important to note that there is no room cleaning except after the stay, and there wasn't a broom available/provided within the unit, so the floor tended to accumulate sand around the door by the end of the stay.
What else? The area appeared safe, eclectic/inclusive, and active though not overcrowded. There was a little bit of nighttime noise from music/partying in the building on the Saturday of the stay. One TV was fickle as were the remotes (low charge on batteries, seemed like). Heating system was unimpressive/rickety but also not vital. There were space heaters stored in one closet, which suggested we weren't the first to find it a bit chilly at times...again, not a serious or significant concern. I rated service as middling only because there didn't seem to be much in the way of service. There is a person at the desk in the lobby, but staffing appeared spare otherwise.
I would 100% recommend Capri by the Sea and would stay there again. It was exactly what we wanted, and anything I have hinted at as a concern in this short review was either minor (glitchy TV) or known ahead of time...
