PB Surf Beachside Inn — Hotel in San Diego

This place is pretty rough. It’s about 1 block from the beach, and that’s really great. But that’s about it in terms of good things.

You will certainly struggle to find parking at this hotel. There’s like 10 spots max, so if you wanna go anywhere you have to do some mental math about whether or not you’re gonna have a spot when you return.

When I arrived, it hadn’t been cleaned all that well. Sand in the corners and hair everywhere in the floor. The bed itself was pretty old. Old pillows and the sheets aren’t fitted properly, so do definitely get torn off when you’re sleeping as others have mentioned. Didn’t see any bugs in the hotel room luckily.

I arrived early and they got me checked in early, while waiting i was allowed to change in their staff bathroom. I set my bags down and I think the floor in there was covered in pee, cause my backpack smelled like that for a while afterwards lol. Pretty gross.

The shower had been redone recently, but the drain didn’t work basically at all. Sometimes it takes ages to get hot water too. Little dicy. No fans in the bathroom which I assume causes the mold issues.

Agreed with the other reviews about weird smells outside some of the rooms. Old broken bins on the second floor balcony, a lot of weedsmoke coming from other rooms, and definitely some thin thin walls.

The AC worked fine at least, but you can’t go lower than 61.

There’s also basically no room to hang out in, just a bed and shower and closet. So don’t expect to eat or work in there.

Wifi doesn’t work at all, so don’t expect to be watching Netflix or YouTube or working.

There’s a rooftop patio ontop of the building but it’s only got a few chairs and no shade so nobody uses it during the day.

The sister hotel has a pool but it looked like the kinda pool you might get in a Scandinavian prison. It’s a pool but it’s a little depressing.

Definitely wouldn’t come here again honestly. Even at 125$ a night for a wed/Thurs, it still felt pretty gross.

These positive review people are definitely a little dubious lol. There’s a hotel nearby called the pacific terrace hotel, and it seems way nicer tbh.

If you’re coming in a family vacation this is not the spot to do it at. Maybe if you’re a dude just looking to surf and eat tacos it’s… fine? But honestly you’re gonna feel pretty unclean staying here and not family or wife or even...

Despite the location, the hotel/motel is nothing to write home about. The customer service here is greatly lacking (no smiling at the front desk or continental breakfast as stated during booking). Since I usually skip on room service during stays, I had to pick up towels twice during our 8 days stay and once the front desk advised me no hand towels were available nor wash cloths, and another time only 2 bath towels were provided, as if the towels were coming out of their paycheck. They were not very friendly or welcoming upon check in. Cockroaches were discovered on numerous occasions crawling over the dresser as well as severe mold problem in bathroom. There also is no where within the room to eat. For an 8 days stay for two people, the room provided was horribly crammed and located in front of the stairwell, so unfortunately sleeping was very difficult during our stay, as we heard all the drunks arriving at the inn in the wee hours of the morning coming back from the bars, as well as extremely LOUD noise coming from neighboring rooms. The WiFi is very spotty and goes in and out. For the price we paid during our stay, no attempt was made to ensure our experience was a positive one. There was no ‘checking in’ with us to see how our stay was going. You probably won’t have anywhere to park on the property due to the limited 6 spots available at any given time and will be asked to park down the road at the sister property PB Shores inn and you will have to walk back to your room. Also- the pool and laundry are located at that location as well, which I found to be very inconvenient. You will probably be stalking out a parking space in the early morning hours. All in all, our stay was not a positive experience and I can’t recommend this inn as a place to stay...

Very, very disappointing and I am very surprised - really surprised - w the high reviews that the place has ( ??) Starting w the first impression - it was NOT GOOD..... Upon entering the office we were overwhelmed w this strong smell of cheap floor cleaner .... The receptionist was unfriendly and w an attitude like, she is doing us a favor - to check us in..... and the reception area can definitely use the upgrade.... Upon entering the room, I new that we were in trouble.... Room smelled musty .....and carpet was dirty..... Night time stand drawer would not stay closed..... Bed sheets were dirty.... Hair blow dryer did't work ..... TV control is not working properly when changing the chanels...... The only somewhat decent thing about the room was the bathroom..... The room is in a great need of a paint job..... At 7pm we heard a loud music, kids screaming, adolts talking loudly, smoking & drinking and we realised that there was a party going on at the somewhat centraly located patio area.... Poor room's insulation and echo effect made it all very loud, even with the TV on..... We were told that there is nothing that can be done until 10pm....but it went on until 2:30am..... We realised that there was no oversight of the premise, at least not that night .... We were so disappointed.....to think, that we came here to get good night rest .... We traveled all over the world and this is one of the worst places that we stayed in ..... Unfriendly environment and room below our reasonable expectations.... There are lots of nicer places, near by, for the same price we...
