Our room (Apt # 36) was clean and comfortable, and the guest house's location is perfect for exploring Old San Juan. After we made our reservation, the management even emailed us excellent photos of the room from every vantage point, something no other lodging has ever done.||And yet, somehow, I missed the fact that the room had no window. I assumed "interior" meant that it faced a court yard or air shaft, not that the word "interior" meant the same thing it does on a cruise ship. Having no window felt odd. If we ever return to the island, we'd be happy to stay at the Old San Juan Guest House again, but I'd aim for a room with an actual window.||The room's kitchenette was well stocked and bigger than we expected, There was also a table & two chairs if we'd wanted to do any cooking. We did know from the photos that the bathroom was designed with neither a door nor a shower door. (This is not a room for anyone keeping secrets from their bedmate.) But the bathroom was easy to use and the water, while not piping hot, was perfectly adequate. ||It was interesting to reread reviews from other guests and realize that we never met anyone from guest house management, that we know of. We did talk with people who were friendly and told us where the elevator was (up a flight of stairs) but nobody introduced themself as having an official role. Note that there's no "front desk"; we got our key from a lock box with the code provided, and we returned it there, too. We don't need full B&B hospitality, but again, this was not the level of attention we expected, given earlier reviews. ||The wall-mounted TV seems pretty new, but we don't have any streaming memberships and there were no instructions, so we were limited to YouTube. However, the wifi worked fine and we kept up with news as much as we wanted.||We enjoyed our three nights at the guest house, and would recommend the place. Just understand that there are quirks -- and consider springing for a...
Read moreThe apartment was newly renovated and located in the heart of old town San Juan. From there, it was a short walk to major sights, restaurants and cafes.||We had a spacious studio with kitchen and bedroom all in one, with an adequate but very small bathroom. All clean and with a generous tray of free snacks as a bonus.||There was a large balcony with a good view of old town and San Francisco street below. A old elevator managed to get us all the way to the fourth floor with great effort, but the stairs provided good exercise as well.||Not a cheap stay, but in my view worth the price tag.||On checkout, we were approached by a gentleman from across the street who aggresively demanded our keys in rapid Spanish. I refused since I had no prior knowledge of him and proceeded to leave the keys in the lockbox as instructed. The gentleman did not approve. He could be a worker who meant well, but if so the approach was unprofessional and...
Read moreWe stayed 10 nights in apartment 41-A on 4th floor. It was quiet, clean and perfectly equipped room with privacy. We prepared our breakfast and had it on the terrace every morning. (If you don´t want to cook, there are lots of cafes and restaurants nearby where to choose). |There`s an elevator, fridge & freezer, TV with Netflix, effective air conditioning, wifi and enough wall plugs. Latin music, sounds and voices during the day, silence at nights.|The location is excellent; by one of the main streets, but opposite of a church, so it´s peaceful enough. Lots of shops, restaurants and attractions nearby and you can walk everywhere.|BUT this is not a fancy hotel. It is an old building, so the bathroom door squeaks, the shower is never hot and they do not clean your room or change your towels everyday. If you need that, this is not for you. We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely stay...
