Seaside is absolutely beautiful and we have found our new vacation spot! Unfortunately the Rivertide suites really caught me on a bad day but I will share my experience. Our experience started out rocky- then was fantastic then ended with snarky comments that brought the “bad” back to light. This is an honest review but I also wasn’t going to post the negatives about the hotel until the lady checking out made a comment I found irritating- so take it as you want!
We booked 3 nights for a Mother’s Day getaway with myself, my mom and my 2 daughters. The stay overall was fantastic! We actually extended our stay while there! The hotel is decent- rooms are good for separate bedroom, living area, kitchen, dining, etc.. pool is kinda small and can get crowded quickly but it’s a short walk to the beach and all the fun in seaside pretty much!
The rooms were clean for the most part except our room had a layer of dust on the ceiling fan, light in dining room and the round piece in the ceiling. We upgraded our room from the original room we booked and while it was cool having a River view, I feel like we got the “short end of the stick” after we upgraded. The dust. Then our tub wasn’t working so we had to call the guy up to come fix it. Then we go to set up the pack and play crib (which cost $10/night) and the one is broken (bottom would not lock into place). Which I sincerely hope the hotel replaced when we notified them! They did bring us one that was good. After this on the first night though everything seemed to be better until the last day.
The staff was absolutely delightful- apart from the one lady that struck a nerve. Seriously every person was soo nice and helpful- house cleaning especially!
Now for the story of why I left the review: We stayed 4 nights total (after extending our stay) and checked out on 5/14. We had late check out at 12 - and it was 1155 my mom and toddler (age 3) went down to get luggage cart and check out and the lady asked if we were out and we just needed to get luggage out so it would be a few mins late. The lady says “no problem, no extra charge for being late” to my mom. Well we are getting the luggage packed on the cart and my baby (7 months) was in the stroller having a blowout- if your a parent and hear of blowouts, you know what I’m talking about! It’s all over my daughter’s clothes, running down her leg, getting all over the stroller, her pacifier and string attaching it. My mom picked her up and it’s all over my mom. At this point we were in the doorway of the room since we were leaving and I had to unpack a couple bags off the cart in order to get all this cleaned and find a place to pack away the dirty, poopie clothes and items to travel back with. All of this is happening, my toddler is also having a meltdown bc that’s just how it is with children. The house cleaning lady was walking around the corner as we’re finally getting out of the room apologizing to her and she’s SUPER NICE saying no worries, is there anything I can help with. Seriously so nice!! We get downstairs (luggage cart with bags hanging off bc all the unpacking and repacking we just did super quick) and the lady tells my mom she’s going to charge us $25 extra bc we were 30 minutes late instead of the 5/10 like she thought it was going to take for us to get luggage out.
On one hand I understand that it’s my fault for trying to leave at the last minute before “checkout” time and she may not have been aware of the chaos that just unfolded upstairs but at the same time I didn’t find it necessary. There wasn’t someone waiting in the lobby to get into that room. You see we have 2 young children traveling with us, I promise there was no relaxing in that 30 minutes. And the tone of “we will waive the fee for you this time” struck a nerve. So when we visit seaside next time I’ll be sure to “wave” as we drive past to another hotel.
But like I said overall it was great and would recommend others to stay there- just not for me and my family! It might be petty but I felt a lack of compassion with the...
Read moreWe just got home from a weekend stay, so I wanted to put in my two cents while it's fresh. This was my first time staying here at over $300/night (last minute weekend trip... my fault), so I read up on hundreds of reviews to help make my decision. There were mostly good ones, but some scary ones, too. I was initially turned off, but gave it a shot anyway. Surprisingly, the stay was fantastic, albeit expensive. Perhaps next time, I'll book in advance and also call in for a discount for direct booking.
The stay was for 2 nights in mid March 2023, long after the peak of the covid-19 pandemic staffing issues. I imagine hotels suffered from serious staffing issues during the initial covid-19 days and so service wasn't too great. However, we're into year 3 now and life goes on. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming during our stay. Upon initial check in, we had some minor maintenance issues for which I called in to the front desk. Debbie was very helpful and sent someone right away, in minutes! We got the main issues sorted out and prioritized for later maintenance. Overall, the accommodations were fine for a family of 6 and 2 smaller dogs, with dog fees sitting at $30/night as of March 2023.
I accidentally left my Bose Quiet Comfort II earbuds (a $300 purchase) in the master bedroom. A short while after checkout, the cleaning crew reported the missing earbuds to the front desk and they called (unsuccessfully--due to a carrier spam block I had in place) and then emailed me and offered to keep it at the front desk for pick up, or to ship it to me. Either way, this was unexpected and went above and beyond. We were getting coffee at the nearby Starbucks, so we simply headed back to pick it up.
Here are some bulleted points outlining our experience.
Pros: super friendly and helpful staff (can't stress enough*) decent accommodations in generally clean and working order kitchen with mini versions of furnished appliances, with which we cooked meals like at home normal sized washer and dryer, which we definitely made use of thermostat controlled air-conditioning and heating family friendly pet friendly no major crowd or noise issues at the time of my visit in March 2023 free parking, some covered walking distance to Seaside attractions and the beach basic wifi was free and I got consistently decent speeds of ~20/20 Mbps +/- 5 Mbps, with no room-to-device limits honest house keeping, front desk staff, and maintenance staff booked a 2 bedroom 2 bath mountain view room, got a river view (nice!) didn't have to suit up in hazmat suits to sanitize and clean like we did at a vacation home operated by a certain regional vacation lodging agency
Cons: a bit on the pricey side, especially late bookings, but you truly get what you pay weekend evening parking spots were hard to find you can't leave your dogs alone, and no dog sitting offerings
Neutral: not a fan of jetted tubs that I haven't cleaned and sanitized myself, so I didn't use them at all, but both bathrooms had jetted shower tubs didn't get around to using the gas fireplace didn't have time to pick up the "grab and go" breakfast, but I imagine it's probably just a continental breakfast
*refer back to the forgotten Bose QCII earbuds incident
This was for sure the best hotel experience I've had in a long, long time. We'll definitely be staying here again the next time I'm in town. Our last vacation home rental was a filthy, hazmat suit required, pet stain and...
Read moreWe were not satisfied with our stay. Although the room was nice and had the amenities we wanted, we did have a problem with the room and the customer service of the hotel was extremely lacking.
The first night we were without our jetted tub. The tub was repaired the next day while we were out but when we returned the tub went on by itself for a couple minutes. We initially thought there was something still wrong with the tub. It would have been nice for the staff to let us know the tub will kick in by itself after it has been run, to perform a cleaning cycle. They had plaques on the shower walls how to operate the tub but failed to mention the last part.
And although when we returned in the afternoon the tub was repaired, it was 430pm and our room was still not serviced for the day. When we reported this, we declined the offer to have the room made up right away but did accept the offer of a delivery of fresh towels. The Front Desk Agent, Wil apologized and informed us the hotel was short staffed that weekend.
Upon check out, we brought these issues to the Front Desk Agent who happened again to be Wil. We had asked if he had remembered us upon checking in and how we had asked if there were any local events going on that we should know about. He did remember us and how he told us that he did not know of anything going on during this weekend. What he failed to tell us upon check in was that there was an annual Christmas parade starting in 3 hours, with the line up on the very next block. Plus during the entire weekend was an local craftsman arts fair at the Civic Center on the next block. The event was advertised all over town, and even on table placards in restaurants. As my partner is someone who also works in the hospitality industry he let Wil know he failed in his concierge duties and educated him that you never give a guest the excuse your hotel is short staffed. Wil was very apologetic for our stay and did make amends by adjusting our bill. Thank you Wil.
In addition, we experienced poor customer service two other times. When my partner went to the front desk in the morning to request that our tub be repaired, the older female agent referred to him as 'Honey.' Terms of endearment are not always very endearing and he was not very happy about being addressed as such. When we went through the lobby in the afternoon, the younger female agent who was managing the front desk was letting uniformed staff (either laundry or maid service) sit in the guest dining/lounge area, conversing on her cell phone. Was she on a break? If so, that was not the place for it.
The front end staff really lacks the quality of customer service and managing style that you would expect from a resort hotel. My partner works in hospitality in a boutique hotel in downtown Seattle. His hotel is in the top 10 of places to stay in Seattle mostly because of their excellent customer service.
We would like to give out kudos to the only two staff members who actual smiled as us, making us feel welcomed as customers. That would be the female night auditor who was very pleasant and courteous when answering our questions, and to the houseman on the 3rd floor who delivered the towels and asked if there was anything else he could do for us. Kudos to them and knowing what the word hospitality means but as far as the rest of our stay was concerned, we will more than likely not...
