The atmosphere at Tora is pleasant and definitely enjoyable. The food, though not consistently served with the same quality, was also enjoyable. That is where any enjoyment ended. The waitresses were very slow to ask customers what they wanted to start out with, and very infrequently returned to provide service. When finally ordering something, we were told that they might not have the bananas necessary to prepare what I ordered. The waitress said she would check and come right back to let us know. A very long time later, she brought my wife's very different desert, with two spoons. The waitress then said sorry, they have no bananas. She simply assumed it would be okay to force us to share the same desert, when we hadn't even ordered meal with our order. My wife's desert was delivered in an already melting state. I ordered the same dish, and waited a long time for it to arrive. When it did, it was actually intact and not melting at all. The quality contrast was terrible. My wife reported the women's restroom was in horrible condition. In the men's restroom I personally found one of their two stalls literally covered in brown excrement, and toilet paper all over the floor. The sink faucet wobbled, but thankfully did produce water. I wouldn't recommend food here, due to the remarkably poor service, and potential...
Read moreI got Sushi rolls and a lot of them. The price is fare and quality is good compared to other sushi restaurants around Oregon. I find that the menu offered plenty of traditional rolls, and some unique variants with the Tora specialty rolls being the best part. I appreciated the addition of a gluten free section to the menu. I did find that the menu had many tempura options for better or worse. The lounge offered a variety of non fish options as well like veggi rolls, teriyaki, and sukiyaki.
Why 3 stars? Reservations are not available. First come first served. So while 3 people are at a table for 8 my party of 5 waited outside in the rain (with 4 other groups of dinners.) My biggest issue which is a hard one is that my service was inconsistent. I ordered three items in particular that didn't come as expected. One was a Kappa Maki Roll (cucumber and rice) for my very young daughter. It never arrived. Secondly when I asked the server for the Kappa she returned with an entirely different item- some cucumber crab and avocado roll that my daughter rejected, and which I had to pay for. Lastly I asked for Ikura and got Massago (Salmon roe, and got smelt eggs) which is a big difference.
My tip be loud and very clear with your server, plan to wait outside during busy nights and maybe bring a umbrella, and enjoy good...
Read moreThe worst customer service!! Kendall one of the so called manager was so rude and disrespectful. She has issues. I don’t understand how she could be a manager, she needs help. Right when we came in she gave us this rude attitude as if we did something to her. When I asked her questions she’d answer as if I was forcing her and anything anyone would ask wasn’t available or “they can’t do”. I asked for one of the sushi rolls to not have spicy Mayo on top because my mom can’t have spicy, she of course told me they can’t not add it. What?! You just don’t add it! I was so frustrated with her attitude and so was my mom. We told each other we are not tipping her at all. And when she brought our check she had already added a 18% tip. Whattt??!!! Not only did we decide not to tip her at all, she added the tip herself. When I asked why I have to give her a tip she said it’s because we had a party over 6 when. My table only had 5 people and a baby that doesn’t eat at all. SHES CRAZY! and needs to be fired! I give zero stars just can’t post without stars. I won’t let this go. I’ll be calling and reaching out to the boss...
