If you really want to know seattle i recommend this park. It is unanimously known as the native park. So respect it as such. A lot of homeless people congregate here but they are friendly and have that right. Its getting better and more crowded with the new construction. I take my son here to feed the birds all the time. The view of the ocean is one of the best views the city has to offer it neighbors pike place market and is a quick walk to the waterfront. Mornings are best afternoons are crowded. Definitely a camera view. There isn't much garbage and the garbage is cleaned by seattle parks employees. If i was a tourist i would start my adventure at this park. It is the pure essence of what our city is about and it is in a great location. It is about five minutes from downtown Seattle's main shopping center you also have to stop by the gum wall that is located at the other end of pike place market find the hidden staircase and it will take you there post alley is also a must see. Dont forget to take a picture with the totem pole that is located...

This is a great park sporting great views of the Market, Downtown, Mt. Rainier, the sunset, and for peoplewatching. This is all especially nice in the summertime, but I suggest a mild spring day. The homeless cause no problem. One would never get robbed here due to the amount of people present, as well as periodic police patrols through the area. This city is full of character, and part of it is, like it or not, the homeless population. Bring it to your head that yes, this is a big American city, and yes, there are big American city problems that require solving. Pushing the problem elsewhere is not a solution. So either learn to accept that you've come to Seattle, the birthplace of Skid Row, or you can continue staying in your bland, insular bubble... Somewhere else!
Also, the reports of feces and vomit have been greatly...
Read moreOh, how this once lovely park has changed. In the mid to late nineties I used to grab a cold lunch at Pike Place Market and head over to Victor Steinbrueck Park to draw, eat, and enjoy the sunshine. Yeah, homeless people were always hanging out there, sleeping on the grass but they usually had enough sense to leave people alone. I loved staying there for hours, filling my portfolio with page after page of drawings.
I moved to the East Coast in 2001 but returned to the Seattle area in 2015. I'm appalled at the condition of the park. Bums urinating and defecating out in the open and people smoking pot everywhere. No cops to be found and they probably don't care about the mess there, anyway. Downtown Seattle is a reeking pit of unwashed bodies, dirt, animal and human excrement everywhere... it's awful and sad. Avoid the park. It's just...
