Since the store changed, it has become nearly unbearable. I can handle the higher prices, but the staff is absolutely miserable. Every single time I've gone within the past year I've had a problem. Once they wouldn't sell me a product that was on the shelf because the woman didn't put a price on it (even though it was in a bin marked $5). Just recently I went in and the store was a complete mess... There was even menstrual blood in the dressing room.
Just now I had called the store to ask a question about their Halloween costumes. The woman was so rude and talked to me like a complete idiot. I had asked if they still had much in stock (since I am doing some very late Halloween shopping). I had also asked about a specific item... A tie in which I needed to complete my child's costume. She actually said "listen, you are calling goodwill. We stock things when they are brought in. I don't know if we have many costumes." She then said the she could not look, or have anyone else look to see if they had either costumes (in general) or ties.
I have absolutely no problem driving the 30 minutes to check the store. I figured it would be a good idea to call and check just in case everything was already picked over and out of stock. Either way I would have gone to check it out. After dealing with this woman scoffing at me and acting all high and mighty (because I mean, come on. It is goodwill after all), I refuse to go in and deal with the idiots that work there.
I will say that once last month there was a very kind young man working there who really did his best to handle the needs of each customer. He had quit a week later. This cooperation really needs to train their employees, conduct better interviews, and make sure that their staff know how to treat customers. I am not the only one in town with these feelings. Most of the locals have quit going to this store and instead are visiting other thrift stores or even driving to the next town in order to go to goodwill.
Long story short: The majority of staff are complete jerks without any sales knowledge, and the store is filthy. ...
Read moreI usually have a fine time here. This evening I can't in with my three year old daughter who was playing with some dolls on the ground while I attended, checking another product out. It was a pretty slow evening for them, not that many people in the store. One of the employees, a tall African American named Robert, came up and questioned whether or not my daughter was playing with the dolls on the ground which she very obviously was. He had a look of concern and worry and annoyance on his face it appeared to me. he said that he couldn't have the dolls on the ground because the store was trying to sell them and he didn't want the "porcelain" to be possibly damaged on the ground. I explained that it absolutely wasn't porcelain on those dolls and that my daughter was being gentle with them. And with a look of flustered impatience he explains to me again that they were trying to sell the products and he didn't want them on the floor. I quickly I said okay and help to put them back. I looked around the store and there were very few people in the store and absolutely nobody anywhere near where we were. I headed to the register after that to purchase the two items that I had decided on and he didn't make eye contact with me once. It was a pretty uncomfortable experience for me. I felt like telling him to lighten up but I didn't want to make a bigger deal out of it. I'm sure he's a great person and was having his own things going on. But the personable interaction I would expect certainly...
Read moreI've been thrifting for years and I am getting a bit tired of this place. They will put the oldest, smelliest clothing up for sale...things that should be in the trash...AND charge a lot for it. In addition, they have lots of used wal-mart clothing (and other cheaply made clothing) that really isn't worth anything to begin with, but even less now that it's used and smelly.
All of their merchandise comes from donations and they should stop being so greedy and charge fair prices. Also, they need to take some of that profit and pay their employees more because not one of them look happy to be there.
Since they became for profit, they know what they have and they know the value of it...and they will make sure to charge more than what it's worth. That's not "goodwill".
P.S. Please, please stop using that horrendous and old smelling perfume that you spray all over everything in the store. You can smell this store all the way across the parking lot when the door is open. It's disgusting and almost impossible to get out of...
