Even as a timeshare owner who is sometimes permitted to reserve my week as much as two years in advance, it's difficult to get my desired choice of rooms, it's very busy here in the summer into September. Any room that faces, or is in earshot of the "Marina side" of the resort, AkA back alley side of the Ski Run Marina restaurants is noisey as heck in the wee hours of the morning. Dumpster trucks. Charter fisherman shoveling ice.
They've finished a near-decade long program of remodeling and updating all the rooms and the amenities around the resort. However, my particular room I'm sitting right now is looking a bit ragged already. Yes, the granite countertops and high-end fixtures are nice, but the carpet is shot and stained, and I've set two of the chairs out in the hallway as the upholstery is just to cruddy to look at, let alone sit in. Apparently some guests who are not owners don't treat the rooms with respect, and it seems that it's more than the cleaning staff can handle during the busy parts of the season.
There is a near-constant drama-fest in my inbox and time it gets near election season for the owner's association board of directors. Always between owner-board members who want to maintain the status quo and shill candidates from the big evil timeshare company Diamond resorts who supposedly wants to come in and wreck everything, and somehow cause us to lose our private beach.
I mainly use my room/week as a place to crash and have breakfast, and a springboard for adventures far away from the resort. However, anything that disrupts this otherwise heavy sleeper, is brought up with the management, and they are VERY responsive. They try their best, but when the place is booked up solid, there's not much else they're able to do.
There is no air conditioner ANYWHERE on the premises. This comes as a surprise to a lot of pasty city dwellers, you see their heads nearly explode when they learn this anytime one needs to pay a visit to the lobby. Come on, it's Lake Tahoe, it's colder here in the summer than anywhere you possibly came from, enjoy the amazing fresh air! Besides, growling AC units in the middle of the night would just be one more noise problem.
When you are fortunate enough to luck your way into one of the beach and lake view rooms, all is perfect no noise! But best of luck getting in there.
I intend to keep my timeshare here indefinitely, it's been in my family since the early 1990's. This place isn't perfect, but it's better than any of the fleabag motels up and down the Blvd that look like they've needed to have been torn down in the 60's.
The resort is soundly, competently and conservatively run in financial terms. We owners get our financial statements in a timely basis, and the place is always run well into the black, and proceeds seem to always be banked for later capital improvements. The employees are helpful and cheerful, many are lifers, so I'm assuming they're paid well.
I would summarize that all of my complaints with this resort are symptoms of it's popularity. Hopefully other guests are as vocal as I am when things just aren't right, and with a little tuning from management, should improve. Also a more judicious selection of when I book my time to avoid the peak of the season...
Read moreThis place may be nice for certain groups of people but we likely would not stay here again.||Shortly after booking, the confirmation emails we received were largely geared towards “owners” (timeshare buyers). Their system doesn’t seem to distinguish between renting guests and owners and the emails included information that was not pertinent to us and could be confusing if we didn’t realize this discrepancy. ||When we arrived, no one greeted us. We waited in line to check in and the worker seemed less than pleased to be at work. We learned you have to wear bracelets the whole time you’re there which we did not like and found uncomfortable and inconvenient to remember to wear. ||We also learned we could not have two cars on property even though we had a townhome which is intended for up to 4 adults or a small family for an extended time. We had to park our second car at a casino miles away in order to safely have overnight parking somewhere. ||The lobby and building are pretty outdated but the room (townhome) we stayed in was cozy overall. We loved having a kitchen area and two bathrooms. The stairs however were old and didn’t seem very sturdy. They shook and make a lot of noise when walking on them and a screw was coming out of the staircase which was scary. The upstairs bathroom had jets but would turn on randomly which was loud and scary for our kids. Eventually maintenance came to fix it when we asked and it was not an issue past day 1. Our room was clean overall except for hair left in the drains. We did request new bedding and some light cleaning during our stay (our trash cans were overflowing with two babies in diapers) and we were told they would “ask.” We got one sheet when we requested new bedding and we had to put it on ourselves. Very cheap hotels even offer housekeeping on demand so we found this to be really cheap and disappointing. We had to sleep in dirty sheets our whole 4 day stay after our kids got them dirty and had to take our trash elsewhere to not live in a mess. ||Although the property has fire pits you are not allowed to roast marshmallows because it is too messy according to the staff. Our usual place not only allows this but provides s’mores kits. For our family, making s’mores is an important and fun part of a Tahoe trip. ||Although the property had lots of activities and games and the pool was heated, this was just not the place for us for all of the reasons above. We would not personally stay here again because we value comfort, cleanliness, friendliness, and having the ability to have another car on site and...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for two nights to celebrate our 10th anniversary, but unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience.
We arrived for check-in at 4 PM, which is when check-in officially begins. However, a staff member informed us, without us asking, that our room was not ready and that they are not obligated to have it prepared by 4 PM; that time is simply the earliest that check-in can start. We ended up waiting an additional hour for our room to be ready. The staff member who assisted us seemed annoyed and was rude, lacking a welcoming demeanor.
When we finally entered our room, we found it to be somewhat dirty, with light stains on the bedding. The room was located in a busy area with constant noise. It became very warm at night, so we turned on the ceiling fan, which made odd noises and appeared as if it might fall at any moment. We decided to turn it off. Still feeling warm, I found a floor fan and plugged it in. After a while, my husband and I were awakened by the smell of burning plastic. We quickly unhooked the fan and tried to sleep, but the room was very warm. Given that we were on the ground floor near a busy area, we didn't want to leave the sliding door open. I called the front desk, and the staff member who answered was very underwhelmed by my concerns. She said maintenance would check it out in the morning and take away the floor fan. When I asked if we could switch to a room with a properly functioning ceiling fan, she replied immediately that they were fully booked and did not offer any reassurance; she seemed annoyed by my request. I did a quick google and saw they had rooms available for booking.
The next morning, I called again as we were heading out to ensure maintenance would come to take the floor fan and fix the ceiling fan. The staff member assured me that maintenance would take care of it. However, when we returned, no one had come. The ceiling fan was still loose and noisy, and the floor fan was still there. We had no choice but to sleep with the sliding door open, hoping no one would come in while we slept.
In conclusion, it was not a fun trip, and the room was quite expensive. The best part of our stay was the...
