Final shout out this trip for The Ski Renter. My wife's uncle died forcing us to cut our 2 week stay short by 4 days (9 day rentals - love that one can bring the boards back and not use any day). Spent all day changing both return plans to DC PLUS a need to run to Ohio for the funeral. Ski Renter sold me the boots my wife LOVED at a great price, and my unused days are a credit for future use (with no expiration). That is particularly valued as a good friend comes in Monday to ski during the week and we need to light out Tuesday, so getting a voucher he can use (he like me has his own boots, helmets, etc) is at least some compensation for my having him come out and leaving him alone. Thanks team for your flexibility and your great equipment. No other place for equipment in Tahoe.
Shout out to Cousin Mikey and his team at The Ski Renter. Have gotten into a pattern of bringing my fitted boots and helmet but renting boards and poles when at a destination resort My wife and I returned back to our favorite resort Heavenly this year and she is just getting back on the slopes so needed a full set. Rented for 9 days each (with the flexibility to use the 9 days as desired - dropping off for days we don't get to the slopes. Great price for performance equipment for two and Mikey and staff are both knowledgeable and great to talk to. This is the epitome of businesses I love - locally owned and the owner on site often. Gather this was the first ski shop in Tahoe (perfectly situated on the road up to California base area and with great hours for all that is needed - we get into a pattern of late afternoon stop in for next day. They will adjust along the way - indeed my wife found first dsy boots did not work and she not only has a new pair she loves them so much she may take advantage of the shop selling its used equipment. Go and make sure you get some stories of the long term presence of this gem and the family that has kept it going over generations. I note that if you find advice from the real long-term locals invaluable as I do you will find tjis a great resource about what to do in S Lake Tahoe an additional free service. Top Notch. Thanks again...

I paid for a full tune and when I arrived to pickup my board after the time they said, the epoxy was globbed on and not scraped, and the board was not waxed. I asked them to finish the epoxy job and wax it, and they chiseled it quickly and gave it a machine wax which I had to ask them to buff more because it was uneven and sticky. That day the two epoxy repairs failed and I took it to another shop who commented that they’d never seen that type of weak epoxy used, and that the base grind wasn’t well done (I still had shallow scratches all over!) and that my edges were not sharpened. Basically, I was scammed into paying for a full tune that was never done (not to mention they didn’t hot wax it). I paid the other shop to tune it and asked Ski Renter for a refund at which point the manager verbally abused me over several phone calls, making fun of me and my board (??) and calling me “a retard” over and over, as well as threatening me physically and saying I should come to the store so he could he could sort me out. I had to tell them to never call me again and disputed it on my credit card. Don’t know how these people are still in business because when I talked to two other tune shops in town they all cringed at me having brought my board to...
Read moreRented a jacket for two days, the zipper kept opening all day. When we came back after one day to return the jacket, and get a refund for the extra day. They refuse to refund. We rented with two other stores this day, and had no issues and the staff was super nice. Avoid at all costs
UPDATE: based on the business reply below you can see the business has a very bad attitude towards customers. Justifying unfair policy that serves the business only, and takes advantage of customers. Other shops ask you to pay just for the first day and the rest when you return the equipment. Also, one shop was kind enough to recommend a different shop that had different boots than what they hold.
What I want to emphasize, it’s not about yhe money, it’s about attitude more than anything - unkind, zero smiles and empathy - what led me to write this review.
If you are a potential customer, this is what me and my party experienced with this business. If you care about customer service, that’s probably not place for your...
