The location and services in general are good. Room and housekeeping are great. Executive lounge was closed but they have an elite pantry that you can get some bites and various drinks 24hrs which was wonderful but it could not compare to a proper lounge, of course.
May be I was spoiled too much by Marriott hotel services in Asia Pacific region so I put too high expectation to Marriott property in US. Well, any global travel would agree with me, see any review in Google for yourselves if you didn’t.
0.5 star off due to repetitive breakfast choices in the hotel. They have the same buffet breakfast options every single day. I thought that it supposes to happen in Courtyard or Fairfield rather than Marriott hotel.
0.5 star off due to incorrect charges to the room for breakfast which supposed to be a complimentary for members with Platinum and above. I know I was charged because my credit card app notified me. I suspect that there could be a problem so I tried to settle the bills in the evening before check-out day as I can see that there is an express check out option. But the reception lady said something about tax and I have to settle when I was checking out only. She ensured to me that there will be someone here to assist in the morning. Which lead to the next 1 star off.
1 star off as multiple incorrect charges were still there in the final expense report. The early morning I was checking out, as I expected, the breakfast charges were there. I told the lady at the reception, she agreed that it should be free and she said she needed to contact the restaurant but it was not open yet. (ha! I tried to settle bills yesterday because I know this would happen) So, the lady at the reception told me she would send me the correct expense report via email instead. When I got the email, there were still 2 breakfast charges left. I was so tried to make more argument and I just let that happened….
When I stayed in Marriott properties in Asia Pacific region, this was not an issue at all. Restaurants, receptions, and other departments were working together to ensure the guest received entitled benefits according to member’s status. This does not exist here in US for many Marriott properties which is a shame.
For any future guests who read this review, don’t expect any benefits to be acknowledged but please ask for them everytime you think you should be...
Read moreThe Marriott is arguably the best hotel in the micro downtown of the wholly manufactured Woodlands community. Sitting on the "Woodlands Waterway" which is reminiscent of a gentrified English Midlands canal, it has quite pleasant surroundings. Walk a few minutes and you are lost in the manicured 'burbs of the Woodlands lakeside community filled with dog walkers and joggers. There is a free waterbus service on the canal which i guess takes you to the Woodlands Mall - but it wasn't working when i was there. Alternatively you can board a free bus cunningly disguised (not) as a traditional streetcar which drives alongside the same route. It also takes you (or if you have working legs you can easily walk to) the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, home of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and venue for various cultural events. You can also hire a boat and go rowing on the waterway in the Summer.
The hotel only really gets lively when a large conference fills the attached facility, and unless you are participating in this conference you may feel a little excluded. Never mind, there are lots of bars and places to eat within a short stroll through the fairylit Woodlands downtown.
Facilities are excellent - nothing ever seems under strain, there are no check in/out queues and service in the restaurant is quick. Staff always seem to have time to address your needs - even proactively. I was bit disappointed by teh lack of the (advertised) breakfast buffet, but the a la carte options came fairly promptly and were well presented.
Rooms are well appointed, contain all the necessary bits and bobs, (all working) and have unobtrusive a/c. There was a mini bar in my room but it wasn't stocked.
Fitness facilities on the 2nd floor are a long walk from the lift (hey, you get fit walking there!) and surprisingly small scale given the hotel's size, and i found that with four people there was some inconvenience in trying to access the right equipment at the right time (one of everything isn't enough). However it all worked well and was in excellent condition. The outdoor pool and hot tub looked nice but as it was a period of thunderstorms when i visited, i did not get to...
Read moreI booked a room for my wife and I at the Marriot in The Woodlands, TX. I happened to meet a man there named Charles the day before our stay and asked for his advice on a local restaurant to take my wife. We have 4 children and don't get out much to have alone time so this was going to be very special for us. Well, the guy takes me over to the computer and first checks to make sure our room is all squared away in the system. Once he confirms all is well, he proceeds to set us for an early check in. I didn't even know that was possible but it was very nice considering we were going to be there for an all day convention. He then finds a restaurant for us and calls them while I'm standing there to make reservations for us. Wow! He tells the restaurant that we are "special" guests and we need a nice table. Now, I need to make this clear. We are just regular average people. There is definitely nothing fancy about us. But it was nice for him to say that and he got us a great table reserved for the following night. Then he somehow upgraded our room and proceeded to bless us like no one has ever done before. It's like this guy just wanted to go out of his way to take care of us. Now I know that they get paid to be nice but this man, Mr. Charles, went above and beyond the call of duty. I even asked him what I could do for him since he had helped me so much and all he said was something like "just enjoy your stay". What a wonderful man he was! So, long story short - my wife and I had the best hotel experience we have ever had. We are now life members of Marriott and will be using their hotels wherever we go. It amazes me that you can meet one person like this who can affect your whole experience and make you feel like "we have to be loyal now". That's the way I feel. I was treated so well that I must remain loyal. We love you Mr. Charles and I hope that you are rewarded for your excellent service. May God bless you as you have so richly blessed us. ...
