Finally made it here and didn’t realize it was Restaurant week but that’s either here nor there because me being who I am I ordered from the regular menu! 😏😏
First off the atmosphere is wonderful. You can come dressed or casual and you won’t feel out of place. We were seated but the window and we had a lovely view of the Waterway.
Once seated we were given these amazing plantain chips with salsa and this green pesto like dip. It was wonderful. The plantain chips are great and I don’t know how they prepare the salsa but it has to be freshly made it was bursting with flavor and the pesto like green sauce (i forgot to ask what it was called) had a nice heat to it.
We ordered drinks and appetizers. The appetizers were the lamb lollipopchops and sirena (shrimp encrusted with plantain chips). OMG! You will it go wrong if you order these two appetizers they are so worth the price. The lamb was served with Yuka fries and it was cooked to perfection. Honestly I could have eaten it as a meal. The shrimp was skewer and served with the most flavorful tartar sauce.
Dinner was the owners cut filet mignon served with jalapeño risotto and a mushroom Foi Gras and the ribeye served with asparagus and mashed potatoes. First up the filet mignon!! I ordered it medium and it had the most wonderful crusting and was melt in your mouth amazing. Paired with jalapeño risotto which was so creamy and bursting with excellence I mean it wasn’t to spicy but it complimented the filet mignon so well. The entire dish was TOP TIER. I had a bite of the ribeye and like the filet it was prepared medium and it was absolutely perfect. The asparagus had a nice smoke to it and it was huge I’ve never seen asparagus that big and also I would eat it again and I’m not really a fan. Now the mashed potatoes were just mashed potatoes nothing special about themselves if you can sub out for jalapeño risotto DO IT. Lastly we ordered a side of the rum plantains and I’m a HUGE fan of plantains and I was looking forward to the sweetness and rum but sadly they were underwhelming. Whatever was drizzled over the plantains did not add to the dish nor could I taste any sweetness or rum. The drizzle had a bit of a sour taste. If I order again I’ll ask to leave that part off but you might like it that way so give it a try.
Now the only reason the service is getting 3 stars is our waiter was not attentive in the least. We were left waiting several times and to the point where the gentleman who served us chips had to get the waiter.
Finally when it was time to pay I didn’t bother looking at the receipt just handed my card and waited for him to return. Now I don’t know if it’s standard practice at this restaurant but I was handed the bill and our waited had handwritten the tip suggestions (there were three). Now like I said I don’t know if the restaurant has them do this but I found it, rather rude and insulting and I’ll explain why. Its as if you are assuming I’m not going to tip or I can’t calculate my own tip. I would suggest not doing this in the future. Or just have it printed up like it does at some restaurants. Just for reference my bill was over $200.
All and all I would return and recommend to anyone who asks my opinion because the food was...
Read moreWe have been eating at Churrascos and Americas for the last ten, fifteen years. At one point it used to be our favorite restaurant and we visited all locations from Sugar Land all the way to the Woodlands on a monthly basis. Today we are very sorry that Churrasco restaurant group and the Cordua empire is struggling this much.
After the reopening following the pandemic we went back to Churrascos as we always do, both for business events as well as for family gatherings. The first bad experience occurred at the new rebranded Mexican Churrascos in West chase where we were given poor service and our food was not served in its entirety. Nevertheless we dedided to give Churrascos another chance, because of the many years of relationship we have had. And, man were we disappointed:
We arrived at the Woodlands location on Sunday in search of their brunch buffet that has always been a hit for the chain both at America's and Churrascos. We were disappointed to hear it was no longer offered due to the pandemic, but we understood and decided to stay for regular menu fare. After over thirty minutes waiting to get our order taken. The server came in a non friendly manner and rushed through our order as he had somewhere else to be. To his credit he was serving almost all tables and just had an accident happened with a broken glass while flameando a dessert or drink for another guest. Nevertheless, his attitude was not acceptable at what used to be for us a high end eatery.
The food came out decent, but our mojitos were a disgrace. As almost always, I asked if they could make them with Yerba buena instead of mint, to what he replied no, without explanation. A trade I have done in the past plenty of times at your locations. Mind you, we have recommended in the past plenty of times Churrascos mojitos as the best in Houston, what a disappointment! The Churrasco was excellent as always. Far superior to other comparable plates at high end competitors such as Perry's or Peli Peli. But it was missing all its sides. When we discovered they were not going to be provided we asked at least to get white Jasmin rice to go with it. To our desmay and shock, regular long grain rice was provided instead without no explanation. What was worse yet is that we got charge extra for the fake Jasmine rice on the bill, even though it was the waiting staff who decided not to give us the sides that come with the Churrasco. And they had the audacity to put Jasmine rice on our check!
This visit was a total disappointment and the final straw on us not coming back to churrascos after being our favorite and most frequent restaurant for the past decade. We wish them luck. They will need it with this...
Read moreWe went in on Saturday 9/16. One of the worst dining experiences I have experienced. It all started when drinks were ordered and I knew it was going to be rough . I ordered a Michelob Ultra and a Makers Mark neat. The server then returned with a bottle of wine and said they did not carry Makers Mark. We refused the wine and I got up and went to order our drinks for the table at the bar as I could see the Makers Mark on the shelf. We then ordered our appetizer. 10 minutes later the server returned to the table and I had to point out on the menu what we ordered. There was obviously a language barrier with the server and he was super new, untrained and really nervous. The Appetizer came out (spinach and Mushroom Empanada). This was the highlight of the meal. It was ok. Nothing special. We then ordered our entree’s. We ordered the Sea Bass and an 8oz “Prime” Filet Medium Rare. When we received the main course, you could smell the Seabass from across the restaurant. We did not touch it. The “Prime Filet was a butterflied Terres Major cut which was well done and cold some how. The waiter returned and I let him know this was not a filet. The manager came over to take the steak back and replace it with the correct order. I told him my order and we waited for it to be replaced. At this point he brought us a “complimentary round of drinks” while we wait. (Ultra and Makers). The Prime Filet did come out medium rare but was one of the worst cuts of meat I have been served. I assume it was dropped in a deep frier to hurry the cooking process in complete shoemaker fashion. Cutting corners seems to be the forte here. It was absolutely terrible and we sent it back. I then just asked for the bill as we were going to eat somewhere else. The food we did not eat was comped but the complimentary drinks that we did not order or drink were added to the bill. Who does that? I was done at this point and just paid for them and left. Lastly, the side of Mushroom Rosotto must be mentioned as it was laughable what was served. It was a ball of over cooked sticky white rice. Not even over cooked Arborio Rice. It was not good. The potato Au Gratin was also a pan full of burnt cheese with a few chunks of in it. There is absolutely nothing that we received that warrants Churrascos to have anything close to the reputation I have heard the name carry. At least at the Woodlands location. Service was horrible, the food was not edible, the staff training was not at all present. No doubt in my mind this location has any chance of staying in business if this is the quality of food and service they provide to their patrons. Total fail and totally unacceptable. Do...
