We got this room last minute and apparently it had just been listed. We arrived around 8pm the office was closed tried calling all the numbers. Saw a guest who explained check your email your info may have been sent there. It said room 1 with a pincode for the door. Searched for 1/2 no room #1. Call a number on the door again got ahold of someone. Told me a different room and code. The door was open lights on water running. Open door call in to show themselves got my husband to clear the room. Luckily no one was there. Cute retro style theme I like that stuff. Then had to call back TVs weren't hooked up ac/heating units not hooked up. Thankfully my husband is a contractor and hooked everything up notified the lady on the phone hung up realized we were not given a wifi code. I was so exhausted I fell asleep. Woke up in the morning told the front desk wait for it a 10 % discount on our next night we book. Wait what???? She then explained how the room was just finished and they put in a new hot water heater wouldn't you know I went back to the room my husband tells me there's no hot water. Went back to the office she checked it out she said it would be up and running in a little bit. Mind you this is at 8:30ish am and check out was at 11am. Needles to say we were there 12 hours did all there work and got nothing in return. There is a bbq grill and a heated pool, shuffle board court and the bay. It is set on the side street and I'm sure if they were not still renovating from the hurricane it would be a cute small...
Read moreWe loved the kitschy nature of the Sea Jay Motel. It is well situated, being a block from the beach. The rooms are equipped with a comfortable bed, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker with stocked coffee and fixings. The grounds are impeccable, beautifully kept. The pool is crystal clear. The blackout curtains are very nice, however, the smaller window at the back of our room did not have a covering. Which in the morning, let in more light than my particular liking. It is neat to preserve the original bathrooms but that comes with some inconveniences, like having to hold the toilet lever until the toilet flushes all of the way. The shower is very small, the water does not hold the heat, transitioning from warm to cold a few times. Modern wall air conditioners must offer quieter options. The unit in our room was very loud, the night setting did not offer any relief. I tried to convince myself it was white noise but managed to sleep only a couple hours at best. My personal taste favors a quiet room with my phone offering some serene ambient noise to help me sleep. The updates to the property make it a worthwhile stay. There are some updates that would be worth the expense down the road. I am aware that updating a property like this can be very expensive. Overall, I recommend with reservations based on my personal needs and likes. If you enjoy classic/vintage, clean, with light amenities; the Sea Jay will...
Read moreDisappointed and Won't Be Returning!
We've stayed here many times before and always had great experiences-until now. This visit was a complete disappointment from the start. Upon arrival, we were informed that pool hours had been reduced because of a previous guest's behavior. When I expressed my disappointment, the GM responded with, "Well, we could just shut down the pool..." WOW. Not exactly the warm welcome we’re used to.
When we got to our room, it was clear that upkeep has seriously declined. The kitchen drawers were dirty, the sheets were stained, and there were peeling stickers in the bathtub that stuck to our feet. The shower head leaked, the bathroom window was broken, and there was no fan. To top it off, on day 2 of our stay, we received a text from management informing us that we'd possibly be without water intermittently for the next two days due to plumbing work. We were given just 15 minutes' notice before the water was shut off, with instructions not to flush toilets, use any water, or pour anything down the drains. That one-hour window was extended, twice and now here we still are, plumbers left the site, manager has no idea & can’t give any answers, of when it will restored. We are 3 hours into no plumbing, unable to shower, brush teeth or use the toilet…
Overall, this has been a frustrating and uncomfortable stay, and unfortunately, we won't be...
