Attractive restaurant inside of Treasure Island Resort Hotel. Our family of four arrived late...just after 9PM, they close at 10 on Wednesdays. Staff was friendly, receptive to us despite the hour. We chose our own table. Decor is upscale and yet feels beachy and fun. Ordered the watermelon margarita $10...very good as it was not too sweet or overly fruity. A medly of flavors perfect for sipping. Kept our order simple...shrimp tacos $15 and the blue burger $16, kids had fish sticks $7 and kraft mac n cheese $7. Food came out after a little wait...considering there was only one other couple arriving after us and one couple at the bar. Tacos were made differently than the menu had described but were ok. Food arrived nicely plated, 3 mini flour tortilla tacos with chopped mango, red onion, and strawberries over small pieces of grilled shrimp. Fries on the side in a mini tin bucket with ranch for dipping. Missing pineapple slaw that was to come on the tacos, as the menu described was requested, that and a missing kids drink but our friendly waitress was quick to oblige. Subbed out the regular fries with zucchini fries for a unexpected $3 upcharge. Added a few nibbles of avocado to each of the tacos for $2. Burger and tin of skin-on fries looked good, made to order, roll looked even better. Skip the sauteed onions though...wet and too sweet for the burger. Ask for fresh onions instead. Kids meals were typical. Fish sticks appeared to be homemade. Surprised that they didn't offer the same for a mac n cheese. But no complaints from the kids. All in all an acceptable dining experience; most memorable for the gracious greeting on arrival, decor, and...
Read moreOur server Ken was extremely polite and conscientious; he checked on our satisfaction level often and responded to our questions of favorite dishes he would recommend or those most often requested by guests.
The food, however, was a different matter. The bison burger I ordered was lacking in taste; it was a large portion but devoid of any melody of flavors. Perhaps the "Build-Your-Own" burger scenario was the worst thing I could've done. I detoured from Ken's suggestion here - and regretted it later.
On the other hand, my partner's burger, the "Little Bo Peep", was delightful: It was a melody of lamb, feta, tomato, lettuce, and carmelized onions on a crisp pita. I know because she couldn't finish it, so I inherited half a sandwich.
My "big bison" came with a side of cole slaw and was loaded with mayo and had an odd and, to me, unpleasant taste. The pickle slices were tiny, sickly sweet, and not very appealing, especially when adjoined to a huge patty of bison meat.
In addition, the orders arrived on a paper-on-cutting-board presentation. My partner and I had to be careful not to cut into - and possibly eat - the paper. Annoying!
All of this at a price tag of $18 for just my burger....
