My wife agreed to go camping at Fort Desoto even though camping isn't her thing. Tropical Storm Fred was brewing and there was a chance it could impact our camping trip. I decided to look at back up plans in case the weather didn't cooperate. I found Sunset Inn & Cottages and decided to give it a shot. She was unaware I did this and was mentally preparing for a not so comfortable weekend. We packed up on Friday and headed to the campsite. When we got there I took a few pics before we set up camp. After some pics I told her we needed to get in the car. She was insistent on setting up the tent as we were losing daylight. After a little coaxing she got into the car. She asked what was going on and I broke the news we were not staying at the campsite as I booked a room elsewhere. Needless to say she was ecstatic and started to cry with tears of joy. We drove a few minutes up the road and discovered this little gem. Our room was super clean and well kept. My wife couldn't have been happier. After unloading we walked across the street to the beach and enjoyed one of the best sunsets I've seen in a long time. We got a good nights sleep and woke up the next morning and headed to Fort Desoto to camp for the day. After some fishing, grilling hotdogs, and going to the camp store to get more buns (a squirrel ate the others) we headed back to the room to relax before dinner. Overall as would say if your are looking for a clean, inexpensive, conveniently located place to stay this is the place. Both my wife and I would definitely come back.

Upon checking in to The Sunset Inn, we did not want to leave. Its was relaxing and certainly lives up to it's name. One evening we sat on the beach, just across the street, watching the sky turn fire red. The porpoise viewing boat was silhouetted by the huge sun dropping into the ocean. It appears the whole town comes to watch the sun set. The stylish Lookout Penthouse has partial views of the turquoise Gulf, public park and colorful courtyard. Its modern decor and large rooms made it feel extra special. The designer did such a nice job on the large king bedroom using fun lighting, furniture and an electric red fireplace. The Living room / second bedroom featured a huge couch and bubble swing chair for watching TV. The large windows allowed warm light to stream in and illuminate the two tone curtains. We were surprised the one small bathroom came with one tiny soap bar and generic shampoo. The towels and sheets were bright white. We forgot to pack beach umbrellas and chairs. Our friendly host Sandra rented us chairs, umbrellas and towels, $15 per person, for entire stay. She even offered to help us bring luggage to our car. The extra large kitchen was fully loaded and ready for cooking. It had a drip and K cup coffee maker, yet we found no coffee or k cups. Luckily there is a 7/11 a short drive away. We’ll definitely be back.

Cute, quaint, 60s retro style units. I stayed in Cabana 2 with one dedicated parking spot. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and kindly allowed me to park at front office at night for extra space as the cost to city park was about $80/day. Pros -Location is amazing, directly across the street from the beach. -bed is comfy, room is dark for sleeping, ceiling fan in bedroom -space in kitchen, stove, sink, refrigerator, microwave all good -fan in living room, and futon for additional sleeping space -private gated entrance to your unit with shower to rinse off before coming back in from the beach -cozy seating area to hang out at night with cute lighting -allow pets! Cons -extremely tiny shower, couldn’t bend to shave, or bend to wash lags well - had to open the shower curtain to bend to wash full body. shower head doesn’t move well and isn’t ideal for taller people. -entry into unit you run directly into the toilet in two steps. -no storage shelf or space for shower soaps/shampoos. -DO YOUR INVESTIGATION on area parking ahead of your travel if you have another vehicle or plan to go places. It was going to cost over $80 per day for a second vehicle in city parking -ASK FOR BUILDING ADDRESS in your cabanas, I ordered instacart groceries and they delivered to INN 2 instead of CABANA2 as I only had the main address to the inn

I would give 5 stars based on the room/hotel itself, but the reservation process was quite difficult, hence the deduction of a star. We were trying to make the reservation while traveling, for the same night. The website indicated they had two king rooms available and one queen, but it would not allow us to reserve one. I called, left a detailed message and asked for a return call in order to make the reservation--nothing. We really did want to stay there, as it looked so cool and had such good reviews, so I tried again. My husband also tried to reserve online with no luck, but then got a call from Sandra, which could only have come from his attempt to reserve online, a process which required him to input his phone number.

So why she saw that and called him, but did not return my calls, I don't know...She told him she was not at the property, and was not 'at the computer,' so she couldn't help us. We understood that it was a small operation, but if you can't be available for phone or in-person reservations, then the website should be functioning if you have available rooms, it seems. That's revenue that's lost.

I was not in on the conversation my husband had with her, and it didn't make sense to me, so I made one final attempt on the phone. Still no answer but she called me back, saying she 'saw she had a missed call' (apparently she had never gotten my earlier voice messages). After reiterating what she'd told my husband about not being able to make a reservation for us because she didn't have access to a computer, she did say that she might be in the office at 5:30, so to call back if we couldn't find anywhere else. I did call, she did answer, she did reserve the room for us, but wasn't there when we arrived, so I remain mystified why this couldn't have been accomplished without her physically in the office.

At any rate--after all this--we loved the room, loved the motel, saw a beautiful sunset across the street, and were really pleased it all worked out in the end. Everything was spotlessly clean, which is very important to me; I'm finicky about floors and almost never traipse around a hotel room barefoot, no matter how expensive or nice it is, but the floors were squeaky clean and felt great, and the funky decor was perfect. Sandra has managed the old-time beachy motel vibe with none of the worn or grungy feel that usually accompanies it (we stayed at just such a place a few days earlier near Melbourne Beach).

We do like to be able to walk from our accommodations to coffee shops and restaurants and, unless we missed something, that's not possible from here, but on the other hand, that probably keeps it quieter. A couple of reviewers complained about the beds, but ours was very comfortable. Only improvement would be to have some kind of shade for the vertical window in the room door--the hallway light coming through it bothered my husband somewhat; he stacked a couple pillows on a chair up against the door to block it. This was just kind of an overnight, but I would absolutely stay here again if I wanted a few quiet days on the beach.

Should also add that once the reservation finally got made, Sandra followed up to check on us, and was very responsive about dinner suggestions, etc. A couple of reviewers have complained about not receiving consideration, in the face of unexpected developments/illnesses, etc., and while I sympathize, I recall that it was made pretty explicit. People really can't complain when a policy they agreed to at the time of reservation is enforced, and if the option of cancellation is important, reservations without it should...

We recently spent a long weekend at the Sunset Inn & Cottages in Treasure Island, and the entire experience far exceeded my expectations. I travel for a living and deciding to "travel" for relaxation is risky. It was the perfect quiet weekend.

The Inn has been completely renovated, yet maintained its integrity of a 1940's "feel". The Inn is located on the south end of Treasure Island, which was perfect and away from the "touristy" area up the road. It was quiet, we were less than 100 steps from the beach, walking distance to a couple of restaurants, and a $4 Uber ride to other restaurants.

We stayed in one of the cottages and it was plenty of room and super cute! It had a nice size bedroom with night stands on both sides, a dresser, and nice size closet with wood hangers. The bed was also very comfy! The living room and kitchen area were fully furnished and stocked with a very comfy couch, breakfast table, full-size fridge, and a stove. It had everything you would need to stay in, if you so chose, including grills right outside in the courtyard under the decorative lights. Oh, and it has Wifi!!

Laurie is the innkeeper and she could not have been more accommodating. She shared the story of how they bought the inn and it's been a labor of love renovating. We genuinely felt like guests in someone's home as opposed to a hotel. She even gave us paddle boarding tips! Laurie also provided very nice beach chairs and beach towels! It was so nice to simply walk out our front door and be steps away from the beach, as opposed to being in a high-rise condo, packing everything up, waiting for an elevator, and making the journey down to the beach. The Inn is literally steps away from the beach.

I cannot say enough how much we enjoyed staying at the Sunset Inn & Cottages. The quaintness of the inn coupled with Laurie's kindness and providing anything you would need, it was the perfect quiet weekend getaway. It would also be a great place for a group of friends or families. The courtyard is great and would also be a great place for a small wedding reception!

We are already planning our next long weekend to visit Laurie...

My two sister's and I did a sister's trip last year and the place was nice and clean. Right across from the beach. So, we decided we would do a trip here every year. I booked our trip for August 3rd 2018 on June 19th 2018. Unfortunately, my brother in law had a heart attack a few days later and was in ICU on life support and so on. There was no way he would be ok, up and moving on his own by the trip date. So, I called has soon has I knew we wouldn't be able to make it and explained what happen on June 28th 2018. The lady I spoke with said that they would keep the deposit, (which I already knew would happen) and she said I would have a year to use it. Then a lady calls on August 3rd 2018, confirming my check in. I was totally surprised by this and again I explained what happened and what I was told on June 28th 2018. She went off about who did I talk too? It sounded like the same lady I spoke to on June 28th, so I said I think I talked to you. She mumbled something and said sorry about your brother in law. Then said, well we are keeping the deposit, sorry and hung up before I could say anything. I understand the deposit is non refundable but I think when one of the employees or whoever I spoke to on June 28th told me I would have a year to use it but then I get a call today to confirm check in and the lady acts like she knew nothing about it. I didn't even know what to say. Except, I feel like I gave plenty of time and they should follow through with what I was told on the phone on June 28th. But, I'd rather just take the lost and go somewhere else after being hung up on in that way. You can't predict when you're going to have a family emergency. I felt like I gave plenty of time for...
