I, my husband, and daughter were staying here for a week. We were excited to stay in an updated retro hotel right by the beach. The decor and fresh paint colors were great. We loved sitting outside our room at the table and chairs and also enjoyed the patio. The beach was incredible and we loved the area and things to do. From there, we have many small suggestions to be corrected.
Toilet seat did not stay up No plug in sink No storage no hooks on back of door No place to put toiletries No place to put towels or bathing suits to dry (one small rack)
Sheets do not fit bed, it was for a smaller mattress Limited storage in bedroom Fire alarm was disconnected in bedroom
Pots and pans for what? No blender Silverware not complete
Charging for beach items Toilet paper and trash bags needed more than once during week. Extras should be left in barrels and TP under sink Towels never replaced when left out in basket following instructions
Though I often help maid service, being required to do this is not hospitable. Referring to bugs in instruction book is not appealing.
Thinking more about these little touches would bring this up to a 5 star. Easily putting an over the toilet shelf unit and hooks on the backs of doors would make a big difference. If there is another small towel rank by bathroom sink and a plug or stopper, it would be more manageable.
The mattress was comfortable and obviously a newer type. With newer mattresses, there needs to be sheets with deeper pockets. I woke each night tangled in the sheet and on just the mattress. A small narrow dresser or shelves would help. My daughter and I lived out of our suitcases.
We go to many beach vacation locations and have never been charged to use beach items like chairs and not have beach towels.
We hope these small but many changes are made to make this the best “retro”,...
Read moreI was impressed at first at this motel. When I first walked in the room, I dropped a small bottle of hairspray and under the couch it rolled. I knelt down and surprise! No dirt or dust! Great. Motel itself is quite old and dated. However it is kept very clean. Location is phenomenal. One thing I hate about beachfront ocean resorts is the fact that it takes forever to get to the actual beach from your room. Most such places have 15 minutes of long hallways, waiting on elevators, walking around the pool etc. Not the case here. Although not technically beachfront, it is only a 1-minute walk. Great! Bedtime is when I became unimpressed. I did not feel safe taking a moonlight beach walk like I wanted. I ventured out anyway but got the creeps and ran back. No outside lights and no one around made it a bad environment. I decided to go to bed early. The mattress is in desperate need of replacement. I got only a couple painful hours of sleep and ended up leaving early. There was another issue I won't discuss here but I assume it will be taken care of, as well as the mattress. The front desk worker was very helpful both upon check-in and after checkout in dealing with problems (thanks for the dining...
Read moreMy friend and I stayed for one night for a little Memorial Day weekend getaway. Cute and quiet place. Robert was very friendly and accommodating. We were able to park on property prior to our 1pm check-in so we could enjoy the beach with free parking. The check-in process was easy. The room was clean and even smelt clean. The bed was comfy. A two minute walk to the beach. We felt safe.
Side note for women: I suggest bringing your own body wash and/or shampoo and conditioner if you can.
Good things to know about the area: There are beach chairs and umbrella rentals on the beach. This is good to know, as beach equipment is first come, first serve at The Beach House. We paid $40/day for two chairs and one umbrella. Not sure if this is the normal price or spiked due to a holiday weekend.
There is a hotel on the beach with public restrooms and a beach bar with affordable and fun adult beverages.
If you plan on going anywhere near Johns Pass for dinner, DO NOT DRIVE. You will have to pay $36 just to park your vehicle for a minimum of two hours, and it is an additional $9/hour after (I think)....
