An interesting location! This location has both Wingate and Baymont brands in the same building. Floors 1 & 2 are Baymont, with outside entrances. Floor 3 is Wingate, with inside entrances. An elevator services all three floors. Seems like an interesting layout, and for the most part, this worked. We could hear the couple arguing in the parking lot until late... but we were 2 floors up so they weren't as loud for us. :-\
Before booking, we called and the front desk person seemed (more on this later...) helpful and friendly. "No, we don't have a pool." and "Yes, we have breakfast which includes waffles, and biscuits and gravy." This sounded great, and Wingate was $10 more than Baymont, so we splurged... such as this level of hotel is splurging.
The room, at first look, was clean with nice touches such as a note from housekeeping and artistically folded towels on the bed, hinting at the Wingate logo. Bed was comfortable, A/C worked fairly well, and we enjoyed the stay until it came time for a shower in the morning! My wife got in the shower, started to soap up, and noticed the water didn't drain. It got to 3" deep when she rinsed off and said this wasn't working right. We used my cell phone to call to the front desk (their phones didn't work... more on that later, too!) and the guy seemed annoyed. "Can't you take the shower and let the water just drain slowly?" No, it took 10 minutes for the 3" do go down!
For the service... We called and the first guy said they have biscuits and gravy - nope, just oddly textured eggs under the "Biscuits and Gravy" labels. The morning front desk guy had absolutely no character or customer savvy. First, he told us to just take the shower, then he offered another room for the shower (a VERY good thing, by the way!), and told us not to touch anything except the shower. I asked about the phone in the room not working, and he said "they don't provide phones any more. People just use their cell phones." Really? Then why are these phones in the rooms?! Could this be a safety issue if someone needs to call in an emergency or even just ask the front desk? Using a cell phone, you have to call the hotel, go through several separate menu options to get directed to the front desk, then explain what you need or ask your question.
We then went for breakfast, looking forward to some biscuits and gravy. Not present. Also, no bagels (just plain bread and some donuts) and no apple, orange or cranberry juices. We asked the woman who looked like she should be working the breakfast are (she was just sitting at a table, not doing anything) and she said we never got a shipment of any of these. To be continued...
We brought all our things down to the car, and went to check out. In passing, we talked to another woman, Lucy, who had started working the counter as assistant manager. We mentioned the shower again, and she said she'd let maintenance know. We commented on the phones and she was taken aback. She said of course they have phones in the rooms, and they are supposed to work! So... our first receptionist was either untrained, or unfortunately more likely, simply lied to us as guests about phones to pass things off like with the shower. We also mentioned the missing food items, and she confirmed that they may not have received the biscuits in their last order. When we mentioned the juices, she said "No, they are there!" so she went over, found the cranberry, installed it in the machine, and people had juice to enjoy with their breakfasts. The other woman just looked at her with a blank stare!
So, note to the traveler: Nice place for a good price, but stay on top of the staff to be sure you get what you're paying for.
Note to owners / managers: Check your employees, especially the morning front desk gentleman and woman working the breakfast area. I realize it's hard to get good people, but staff like this will cost you more in unhappy travelers who will find other places the next time we come...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE! Had king room reserved for 3 months and was downgraded to a 2-Queen room once we arrived. The front desk girl coldly stated that they were overbooked and there was nothing they could do about it. Threatened to charge a cancelation fee when I stated we would find another hotel so we could sleep together. I was appalled they would do that to us since they are the ones who broke the contract. 3am shower with NO hot water. We called the manager, Linda, later that day to ask what could be done about all these issues but had to leave a message.
When we arrived back from our activities that day we spoke with Linda. She informed us that she couldn't get ahold of us on the phone but wanted to check our hot water issue while her maintenance guy was here. She entered our room, despite the Do Not Disturb sign on our door and WITHOUT our permission. She said that with over 90 rooms taking a shower at the same time that the water might not be as hot as we might like it. I informed her that I actually took a shower at 2:30 that morning so her excuse wasn't valid. She said that it's impossible for 1 room to not have hot water. We then told her several of our friends staying here had the same issue. She then said there was a trick to getting it to work. First you have to turn on the sinks hot water and leave it running then use the shower for it to work properly. Are you kidding me? I thought this was a multi-billion dollar company not some privately owned hotel on the side of the road. How are guest supposed to figure this out, trial and error???
She then proceeded to inform us that she didn't appreciate her employees being cussed at during our check-in. I asked if she was referring to us or some other instance. She said it was us. This is the absolute furthest thing from the truth as I can imagine. At no point did either my wife or I utter a single curse word. In fact, my wife repeatedly told the girl that we weren't upset with her personally but rather with the hotels policy. Now we were extremely disappointed and angry, especially after being threatened with a cancelation fee, but we didn't even raise our voices. The 2 employees were present during this conversation and the girl continued to lie and accuse us of this. The guy simply said we were upset.
Have you been treated this poorly before? It absolutely feels horrible AND to be lied on. This place is not professional nor are the employees.
We filed a complaint with the main customer service number with the goal of getting better treatment for future guests. As for my wife and I, we will NEVER stay at one of their properties ever again. I will actively advise anyone I know to...
Read moreZero stars if I could. Unsafe, filthy, and unacceptable.
We booked this hotel through an approved sports tournament travel service and had to leave early because the conditions were unsafe and disgusting.
We arrived very late the night before the tournament and immediately felt uncomfortable and unsafe. The smell of marijuana was noticeable, but we assumed it was from outside. At check-in, the staff member informed us that our reservation-along with all others booked through the tournament service-had been cancelled. She spent most of the check-in process on her phone with a friend in another language instead of assisting us. Red flag #1.
Here's what we experienced in just one night: Ants and other bugs crawling around the refrigerator area, which was sticky and dirty. A blood stain on the nightstand and cigarette burns on the bedding. Strong marijuana odor throughout the hallways, exposing children and families. A smoke detector covered with a plastic bag next to a sprinkler head-a huge fire hazard. Broken windows and overall unsafe conditions throughout the property.
When we reported these issues, staff handed us an almost-empty can of Raid and refused to refund the unused night. Instead, they gave us a master key card to view other rooms. We checked seven additional rooms-all equally filthy and unacceptable.
The next day we spoke with the manager, Sunny, who dismissed our concerns with excuses-including claiming that marijuana was legal. We pointed out that the property itself posts "NO SMOKING/NO MARIJUANA" signs throughout.
This hotel is unsafe, unsanitary, and fails to meet even the most basic standards of cleanliness and safety. For your health, safety, and peace of mind, stay anywhere else. The covered smoke detector alone is a major fire code violation, and health services should be notified. All I asked for was my money back for the day I did not stay at this place. I didn’t ask for my first night to be refunded, even after seeing the terrible and...
