Read moreThe service was excellent!!! The food was good. The coffee warmed me up very well. I love the cornbread. It hits the spot every time. I do wish the sides were a little bigger for the price. But I did leave full and satisfied. The staff was helping each other. It was a well executed lunch rush. Thank you to everyone. The manager was working the kitchen pushing food out with good timing. I got the Brunswick stew today. It has a great flavor. It was luke warm when it came out. I can only assume when it went back that they put it in the microwave to heat it up. The bowl was at the same level that it was when it went back. My BLT came out with no mayonnaise or anything on it at all. But those things were fixed very easily and without any problems. The service was great. The staff works very well together. With the few hiccups the overall experience was pleasant. Thank you to all the staff members.
The Miller lane location in Dayton has lost its flare. The service is not what it use to be. Walked in and there was a wait with many open tables. I do understand that there were servers still coming in. The cornbread that is so famous is no longer served in the skillet. It is four pieces that come out now on a plate. It still has that same great taste. I do miss the skillet that it came in. I ordered regular fries as an appetizer. They came out Luke warm. Nowhere near fresh. They did bring me out some fresh ones and took them off my bill. That was good service. Knowing that there is salt on the table it would be nice if they go lite on the salt when they come out. Some people love all of the salt coating their fingers between fries. I personally don't. The brown sugar chickens had a great flavor. The chicken was cooked a little hard. Stabbed it with a fork and really had to put some muscle into it. The broccoli had enough salt on it to make a salt lover blush. The Mac and cheese was like warm. Its like the food sat in the window for a nice minute. Maybe there should have been a few more runners to help deliver the food to tables. Our server did a decent job. Food for thought. If it's cold outside turn the heat up or the air off. Not fun coming in from the cold just to stay cold. Hope that is...
Read moreMy family had gone here 5-6 years ago; it had been a family favorite for special occasions. Food had always been great, always crowded, lively atmosphere, etc. We went there around 5:30 on a Saturday night.
I was shocked that I found a parking space with ease. Another tip off was the sign on the front door that said, "This door is broken. Please use other door." When I entered, no one was in the waiting area. The place felt dead. The inside of the bar and dining area still looked great, but there were only about a dozen customers. The hostess seated us right away, and our server greeted us promptly and got our drinks and took our food order. The food aromas smelled amazing, but I couldn't get over the absence of the lively atmosphere I had so much enjoyed in the past. A few more customers came in while we were there, but nothing close to past experiences.
I ordered boneless wings. When they arrived, they were like small chicken nuggets, the kitchen had skimped on the sauce, and they were cold. In the past, my food had always been piping hot and the portions had been generous. Our server regularly checked on us and was polite. Before we left, my wife used the restroom and said it needed a major cleaning. Three of us ate for about $53 plus tip. Afterward, we had dessert somewhere else. We reflected that the dessert was more memorable than the meal. It's really a shame. Maybe I should have ordered something else, or maybe we went there too early in the evening.
So, final assessment: nice hostess and servers, lackluster kitchen and ambiance, with facilities in need of maintenance. I really hope they get the place back to former conditions and do something to bring...
