Staff was mostly non existent. Hotel itself showing age in many ways. It appears to have been renovated sometime in the last decade. Renovation implying the lowest bid repairman slapped paint and wallpaper over old dirty walls then changed the carpet. Water fixtures loose in bathroom. Large high rise window leaking in hallway outside room. Lobby layout is odd to say the least. Room service didn’t do much beyond surface level cleaning. Honestly I’m not sure any employee took pride in their work or place of employment. As I was able to find silk rose petals in the floor under the bed and under the room air conditioning unit. Questionable stains on ceiling, walls, inside cabinets, even on furniture. Mold? Bodily fluids? High plausibility of both considering the rose petals. Between the mattress and box spring was filthy with food, hair, dirt, and God knows what else at this point. No bedbugs were found thankfully. I tried to accept the hand I was dealt, and just enjoy the time I was able to spend in Virginia Beach. With experience in customer service based employment, I try to be an understanding customer/consumer. But what truly set the tone for this hotel stay was the egregiously small main parking lot. Which they charge $12 a day to park in. I watched numerous vehicles, even compacts, take multiple (upwards of 5-8) attempts at lining up in a parking spot because each spot was incompetently marked so narrow. Narrow enough our new vehicle (a compact) was dinged on multiple doors by other customers. All of whom obviously left and didn’t care anymore then the hotel we begrudgingly shared. Front desk only offered that “[they] aren’t responsible for what happens outside the hotel” and basically said it was my problem. I understand the hotel didn’t maliciously try to dent my doors, nor was it their fault. But they also showed absolutely no concern to my situation as one of their customers. Nor did any employees seem to take pride in their work, from house keeping to the receptionists. So with the lack of concern shown to myself, and after spending a large sum on a degraded sub standard 3-star hotel room. I write this in the hopes that you, the other end consumers, don’t get duped into thinking this is more then a stained hole in the wall of a place to stay, with a decent view and a somewhat new coat of paint. Which from what I can tell, is offered by over 15 other hotels right beside this forlorn establishment. More then likely these other options have better quality rooms for better rates. Not the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. But hands down the worst Marriott per value, cleanliness, and amenities. Guess they got me in the end....
Read moreMy husband and I decided to have a weekend getaway at the beach. I have enjoyed my stay at every courtyard I have ever traveled to until the is trip. The front desk staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful. At check in the front desk lady was very apologetic that the water wasn't working in the entire hotel, and wouldn't be for a few more hours!! When we got to the room it was cute had a beach theme of course. We noticed the room had a smell but couldn't put our finger on what the smell was. After a few hours we noticed the well decorated wall was actually molded. The ceiling above the molded area was water stained and looked like it had been repaired before due to damage. When we called the front desk we were told they were booked and the room was paid for and they would have to charge us for the room since we didn't cancel in the allotted time. Totally understand places have rules but this place had mold. When the water finally came back on my husband went in to shower and noticed black hair on the towels, yes I have black hair but I had not been in the bathroom, so it wasn't mine. There were also cobwebs in the corners, of the shower we tried to take pictures but you have to really look at the pic to see, but I promise it's there. Behind the toilet was a smear, not sure if it was blood or feces either way it was gross. Aside from the mold, cobwebs and body fluids on the wall the rest of the room was clean (the dirty areas were cleaned by me thankfully I never travel with out a tub of disinfectant wipes) . Couldn't set on the patio due to water dripping down from air condition on patio above us. When you walked out the back door of the hotel by the bistro water from above hit you. The indoor pool area was strong with chlorine you could smell it through the glass, not sure how people could stand to be in the area. The food at the breakfast buffet was good but not worth $15. The man working the buffet was very nice and helpful. A bottle of Mt Dew and 2 bottles of Dr Pepper was 9$ from the hotel store (would have been cheaper to DoorDash it). View from the room was beautiful,
I wouldn't recommend Courtyard South, however we decided to stay one more night so we went to the other Courtyard on the other end of the boardwalk and it was definitely what...
Read moreOkay so, beach hotels sometimes get a bad name, for being dirty & i definitely understand why.
But this hotel was not dirty at all! I was actually quite surprised with how clean it was! I always bring Lysol to spray down, which i did, but i was also checking while spraying & found no issues! -Let me also speak on Rosa or Rosie (forgive me for forgetting) who works the front desk in the mornings until 3pm….. i had called on the phone before i arrived & she was so pleasant! Once i arrived, she remembered our call and gave me great customer service! I had accidentally dropped a box of pampers outside while unloading my car as i was a mom w/ a 1yr old by myself. Rosa/Rosie, called me because she figured they were mine as she had just helped me check in. Pampers are very expensive so, I fully appreciate her for calling me and being sooooo great!!
-yes i was a solo mom with a 1yr old, but I definitely felt safe in the hotel! Also, even though my child is good, she is a 1yr old and was a little busy body and i didn’t get any knocks or complaints so, i do not believe the walls are thin. I could not hear neighboring rooms at all either .
-The hotel is oceanfront with great views ! It is very close to the horse back riding on the beach pin. (No you can’t smell the horses from your balcony).
-things were very walkable ! Like the store literally right across the street. CP Shuckers literally a block away. Ice cream shop directly across the street. A Walgreens a block up . It is very centralized !
*now i do have some CONS; -no microwave in rooms, but there is one on every hall. Just sucked not having one in room with a baby -the balcony chairs and tables need to be washed down or replaced -the breakfast, i was told would have grits or oatmeal everyday on the Buffett. Wrong ! For 2 days straight there was neither option and my baby loves grits and oatmeal so, i was highly...
