A standard reliable Holiday Inn. I stayed here for work, and this was a nice decent 3 star hotel, when I walked in I thought it was a fancy place and I was for sure going to give it a perfect score, but the reality is it's overpriced due to cheapo rooms, no room service or cleaning of rooms, and lousy toilets. Now this place pretends to be fancy with a really nice first floor lobby and a professional front desk staff, but the hallways and actual rooms are lower quality. It almost felt like two different hotels, the first floor lobby has a look and feel of a more fancy 4 star hotel with a lobby restaurant and what seemed to be a bar staff, and then it felt like another hotel with halls and rooms that felt more like a 2 star budget quality place. It's a full Holiday Inn, but inside the hallways and rooms it felt more like a lower tier Holiday Inn Express. My room in 406 had a toilet that just did not work adequately. After you flushed it, you had to wait about 10 minutes to flush it again, there must be a water pressure issue. I notice if I left the bathroom sink on, it also affected the toilet tank. The room itself was OK, but again felt very 2 star Best Western budget hotel and not 3 star quality like this Holiday Inn is supposed to be. It was a smaller room than I expected, overall everything was clean, I saw no bugs or hairs from previous guests. But there was a musty smell in the room, not enough to make me sick but I noticed it. The same musty smell was in the hallways too. The TV was working but had limited options, no Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime option to link with your phone. No premium cable channels like HBO or Cinemax. The Wi-Fi at this hotel was on and off, as is with most hotels. I didn't see an ethernet connection in the room, but I'm willing to believe they have one and I missed it. The front desk staff seemed very professional and nice. The lobby and breakfast area was clean and pleasant looking with a friendly staff, there is free coffee with creamer 24-7. I loved the free 24-7 coffee!! The breakfast however is not free, it’s added on as a room charge. They serve lunch and dinner here in the lobby restaurant area, again as room charges. This is overall a really nice, decent hotel and I would rate this hotel higher but for the problems I mentioned before. I could live with lack of TV options and small room, but the smell in the room and hallway, plus that toilet are huge negatives. The improperly flushing toilet is a BIG DEAL, I flush about 2-3 times after I do my buisness, sometimes 4 times. The alarm clock in the room did not work, again that's a negative, but I've learned to bring my own alarm clock to hotels. Well it took me about 45 minutes due to waiting for the tanks to fill up again. I did feel safe and secure at this hotel though, and it has a great location to my work, Kemah, NASA, and a walkable distance to several restaurants and shops. Overall this is a good hotel and a nice clean and safe place, but it’s rated a 3 star hotel but with 2 star hotel like rooms and lousy toilets. When you pay this much money for a 3 star hotel, you expect the toilets to work well and the rooms to not smell so musty. Also no room service. Nice enough place, but it doesn't deliver what it pretends to be. And I can't forgive...
Read moreI just completed a stay at this hotel. I was part of a week-long 30 people conference.
Upon check in, we received a personalized letter in our rooms with a goodie bag full of snacks (Cheetos, Oreos, candy bar, cheeze its, a bag of popcorn, and 2 bottles of water). The rooms were very spacious and clean. Housekeeping came every day to make up the beds, empty trash, and replenish towels and toiletries (another rarity in today's hotel industry!)
The customer service Yvonne Small provided during our conference and stay was OUTSTANDING. She had everything we needed, and if we ever wanted something else, she got it for us right away. It is hard to find quick and friendly service in the hotel industry these days, so we very much appreciated all she did for us. The meeting room was set up for us each day with fresh coffee, hot tea, iced tea, and water. We also had delicious snacks each after noon (nacho bar; hummus, veggies, and crackers; popcorn; etc).
The food itself is something to RAVE about! The hotel chef had a fresh hot breakfast and lunch prepared for us each day. The food was all so very tasty, better than many of the restaurants I've eaten at and certainly better than ANY hotel food I've ever had! Breakfast was the same every day but there were plenty of items to mix it up throughout the week. Breakfast included biscuits and gravy, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage patties, yogurt, boiled eggs, cereal, muffins, etc. The lunches we had included a soup and salad bar, build your own wraps or sandwiches, Italian pasta, and a taco/fajita bar.
The pool and hot tub were also VERY nice! The pool had water jets that shot as arches into the pool from the pool deck which made it more fun. The hot tub was always HOT, as it should be! Both the pool and hot tub were open every day (also hard to find at most hotels these days).
We did have some re-occurring issues with the key cards to our hotel rooms. Often times they deactivated or the battery in the sensor on the door went dead and had to be changed. Only one of the treadmills in the gym were working. The bar was also closed as the old managers took the liquor license with them when they sold, but the current owner expects to have a liquor license by next month and have the bar up and running again. However, these were all minor inconveniences and didn't deter from the overall stay and everything else this hotel excelled at.
The hotel is only 10 minutes away from NASA and the hotel sells general admission tickets at the front desk. There is also a great variety of food establishments within walking distance for a change of scenery.
I would DEFINITELY recommend staying at this hotel and will surely return to this hotel if I'm ever back...
Read moreDO NOT book this hotel if you have dogs, this place is NOT pet friendly!! They let you pay to bring your pets but not pet friendly. The moment we walked in with our 8 month old lab puppy (she barks at strangers and when she’s excited) there was only 1 guest in the lobby who didn’t care that she was barking at all but the ladies at the counter seemed bothered by her, so much that one of them asked if we could make her stop barking. We explained that she barks for a few minutes and then she calms down that’s just how she is and we also double checked to make sure this was a pet friendly hotel and the lady said yes but only if you can control your dog. I had a bad feeling about this place but we had already paid and booked so figured we will just manage. Horrible mistake! We left the room to run to Walmart and so we put our puppy in her crate and we left our older male lab out since he doesn’t chew or anything. We come back to the room and I can hear both of my dogs barking which was strange & the hotel cards would not work so we could not get inside our hotel room and our dogs are barking frantically and whining. We go down to the reception desk and no one is down there. My husband decided to call the front desk after waiting 10 minutes. The same rude receptionist finally came to the desk and when my husband told her that we could not get into our room she said “your dogs have been barking” and my husband asked her did someone come in the room?? And the lady ignored his question and unlocked the cards so we get to our room and my puppy is in her crate and it’s full of runny wet poop and she was so scared that she was drooling and foaming. My dog NEVER poops in her crate! We have booked pet friendly hotels in San Antonio and she did great and at home in her crate she’s great! We weren’t even gone long. We are 99.5% sure someone came in the room and harassed our dogs while we were gone! They were both very afraid and and stressed out. Also I noticed that the “do not disturb signs were all over the floor and they weren’t before we left so we know someone come in the room. I won’t even book here again even without my dogs! This place is horrible. Before all the dog drama they gave us a room with no lights in the living room and when we mentioned it they said they’ll change our room but decided to give us some lamps instead & we are a family of 5 and they only gave 1 big towel and 2 little wash towels! Ridiculous. Parking lot is also very dark at night, no lighting & signs saying they aren’t...
