The hotel room is postage stamp sized. Going in you are hit with an overpowering smell of ammonia or chlorine or some similar such chemical. The window does not open so you are forced to breathe it all in. The AC unit is over the bed and is loud as a jet engine. What's worse, it works very poorly so at night if you come in the summer expect to wallow in heat no matter what you do. If you have a unit below, you will hear every step your neighbors take walking around above you. The bathroom has clearly never been remodeled or touched up since the 60s when it was likely built. The counters all had a sticky residue over them that even with paper towels and water could not be cleared up. The bed caves in when lying on it. The maids throw dirty towels from the second floor onto the first not concerned that people are living there or may be walking around. In short, this is NOT a hotel for relaxation or comfort - but to sleep for a night on a bed with a roof over it. The price of the unit is also grossly, extremely overpriced - it should be $60-80 a night, max, for what you are getting. All of this puts this hotel in my top 5 worst hotels I have ever stayed at in my life, and I have stayed in many. . Now for the positives for those who still are uncertain: the location is very convenient, just a few steps from the boardwalk. There is a (microscopic) kitchen with a stove, which I was surprised to see. Parking is convenient. There are no bugs I could see. The owner is a bit weird with a makeshift artificial grin like a televangelist, is a bit pushy and has a tendency to interrupt people while they are talking to him, but, all things considered, despite his superficial (?) rudeness, paradoxically, in a kind of Monty Python way... seems...
Read moreI initially booked a room at the Rio motel because the reviews were good, the rooms looked clean from the photos and they were pet friendly. When I arrived to check in I had to go to the Rus Mar motel which is owned by the same people. When I found out that the rooms on the ground floor were all kitchenettes and the room I had booked was on the second floor I was concerned because my dog can't climb a lot of steps which means I would have had to carry her up and down. Even though she is a small dog it would have been very difficult for me to navigate the steps while carrying her. I asked if I could change my booking to a ground floor room at the Rus Mar. The owner accommodated me right away. The room was very clean and included a small fridge, a microwave oven and, although I didn't have need for it, 2 stove top burners. There were also pots, pans, utensils, a coffee maker and a toaster. There were ample clean towels in the bathroom. The sheets were crisp and fresh and there were plenty of pillows. There was a flat screen TV that appeared to have a lot of cable channels. While it was nothing fancy, it was very comfortable and clean. My daughter was a participant in a competition at the the convention center, which was a five minute walk away, so I had booked for two nights. I had asked if I could extend my check out time from 10:30 am to around 2 pm until the competition was over and was told that would be no problem. Everyone I had contact with there (the owners) were helpful, polite and went out of their way to make sure my stay was a pleasant one. I would like to thank Priya, Ali and Kushi (sp?) for their kindness and understanding and to let them know that if I get the chance to come back to Wildwood I will definitely stay at the...
Read moreI did a lot of research when planning my trip last summer, I had a budget in mind but also I had a few criteria in regards to location that RusMar nailed. I have a lot of driving anxiety and driving from Newark Airport down to Wildwood was gonna be a challenge for me so I knew I wanted somewhere that A. had designated parking spots(cause the last thing I wanted after that drive was to not be able to park), B. be easy to drive to from the parkway(it was a few months ago but if I remember correctly I just hopped in the right lane after entering Wildwood and made one or two turns and got there no problem) and C. was an easy walk to the boardwalk. RusMar is luckily right across the street from the boardwalk and at the end of the boardwalk too which is good for people who like to walk/bike the whole boardwalk(there is a bike rental place you pass crossing the street to the boardwalk if you’d like) people who want to go to the beach and also if you don’t think you can walk the whole boardwalk the tram car stops maybe a block away so you can hop on that and it’ll take you to the other end. Staff was very nice, I never really needed them as we were either on the boardwalk or asleep the whole trip but there was always someone available at the front if we needed. The room is what you get in Wildwood: there was 2 beds, a bathroom with a shower, a TV, WiFi a small fridge, stove and microwave and some plates, nothing spectacular but exactly what I expected. It was a great trip and RusMar was exactly what I was...
