Francis — Restaurant in Montevideo

My wife and I recently visited Francis for a date night, and we were thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The warm welcome, the attentive service (with English-speaking waiters!), and the overall ambiance immediately set the stage for a lovely evening.

One thing that really stood out was the use of technology to enhance the dining experience. We were given a tablet alongside the regular menu, which allowed us to see photos of each dish before ordering. This was incredibly helpful and made our choices that much easier.

We started with a refreshing 1.5-liter pitcher of sangria, accompanied by complimentary bread and two delicious dips. Our appetizers, the four-cheese croquettes and the pumpkin, orange, and ginger soup, were both bursting with flavor. The croquettes were perfectly crispy, and the soup was a delightful blend of sweet and savory. For our main course, we shared a chicken breast that was expertly seasoned and cooked to juicy perfection. To satisfy our sweet cravings, we indulged in an almond pudding with ice cream and a chocolate shot, as well as a classic affogato. Both desserts were a delightful end to our meal.

We ended up there because it was the only place with a table available. When I got in I could see it was a sophisticated place. We shared the plates and it was good. We ordered a tortilla with mushrooms, it was delicious. For main course we shared a 550 grms chuleton and a chorizo, it was more than enough. My friend who lives here noticed that the wine was expensive. We ordered an average Tanat that costs pretty cheap at the supermarket and to be honest it was delicious. Desert was divine, some warm cake with ice cream, banana and dulce de leche. I will be honest, it wasn’t cheap. Jan 2017. Terrible service. TERRIBLE. Never had service this bad. Waited half hour for anyone to even say hello or pour us water. When waitress came she literally said, 'Ok, what do you want?' Then the sommelier walked up, grabbed the tablet off the table and said, 'is this what you want. Ok.' and just walked off. It was so ridiculous we all started laughing. You can't make it up. The anamosity in the wait staff to their customers was palpitable. I've never left a review on this cause I'm an easy customer but this was over the top bad. Avoid.
