I booked this hotel for my upcoming trip. Just couple of weeks before the reservation date, I received an email that hotel is being closed for maintenance and I need to cancel my reservation. They have a cancelation policy where you have to pay for a day if you cancel, so I called and after 6/7 tries - finally connected to the front-desk, who assured me that my reservation is fine and no need to cancel.||||I also replied to the email which was sent to me by the hotel management, as I was traveling solo to a foreign country - I like to be absolute sure, so I emailed again about the call. I received similar email few days later that I need to cancel. Naturally, I called again and after multiple tries - got the same response from front-desk.||||I emailed the management again and they insisted I need to cancel and the front-desk person doesn't know what he's talking about. I finally requested to cancel the room regardless of assurity from front-desk and requested full refund, which I did receive.||||I neither stayed at the hotel, nor have the actual experience of how it is - it's the bizarre communication and all the annoyance I had to go through - around 10+ calls to have it sorted and going through the trouble of finding another hotel in a short time - which lead me to leave this review. Even though, I AM thankful they let me knew before time but instead of asking me to Cancel, they should have taken proper steps to cancel it themselves and refund me the deposit since they penalize you...
Read moreI stayed here for three nights (2 correctives). Overall, the hostel is clean and does its job in providing shelter from the heat and humidity of Hanoi. A couple things to keep in mind:
-There's construction going on now pretty much from dawn to dusk, so if you're a light sleeper, don't stay here
-Bottle water is cheap but the snacks are way overpriced compared to the shops just right outside (15K dong versus 25K dong)
-Toilet paper is a scarcity unless you keep going to the front desk to ask
-Room ACs are manually controlled (rather than set by the hostel). There were a few folks in my room that wanted it at 27C, which I think it's ridiculously warm for AC. Having the temp set by the hostel would avoid such conflicts
-Breakfast was okay - soup, hardboiled eggs, bread, salad, etc.
-WiFi was everywhere and pretty reliable
-Location was hard to find (alleyway) but central
-Staff service was uneven. Some were nice, others could care less. Another traveler took my bed and the receptionist told me to resolve it myself, which I did. I asked if I could shower while waiting to check in, and was told no, but apparently you can on the second floor lounge.
-Lounge on the second floor isn't air conditioned, but you can hang around in the mildly air conditioned reception area
-Luggage area is locked but once the staff let's you in you can pretty much take any bag. It'd be better if each guest was given a luggage ticket to...
Read moreFirst of. The location of the hostel is really good, it is located right next to the "busy" part of the old quarter. The rooms are at a first glance fresh and pretty decent. For the price you are paying I would say that you are getting quite a lot.||For the more negative aspects, the are quite a few. Being located right in the middle of the busy street means that you can not expect it to be quiet. That means forgetting to get any sleep before 23.00 - that is when the streets outside stop playing music. The rooms also have a distinguish smell of sewage - you get used to it, but well. As for our personal experience the beds where full of bed bugs (room 401-408). When we lifted it to the reception a guy followed us up and squashed every bug I could find repeating "no. Dust"... That meaning that the small tiny critters moving in our bed was dust. It was pretty funny to watch as he sometimes had to chase the creature in the bed repeating to himself "dust, dust, dust". Either that guy was insane or he was just the first round of defense to pesky guests trying to complain... Either way we had to go back to the reception with this guy arguing with them about whether the small creatures in our beds where bed bugs or dust. Being used to the hustle here in South East Asia we managed to demand a new room - refund was out of the question. I can easily say we didn't sleep good that night.||All in all, would not...
