I would travel often to ha noi for work and stay in well known hotel chains. So when i booked my trip to Sapa for the long weekend and found myself in ha noi for a night, i decided to go out of my comfort zone and try something new, in another part of ha noi. ||I looked at hotels found in the Old Quarters under a budget of 100$ or less. ||I narrowed down my options to 3 hotels and found Oliving Residence to be an interesting place to try. Based on reviews, it seemed like a place to try, but at the same time it still left me skeptical enough to want to experience it myself to see what it really had to offer. ||We arrived in Ha Noi at around 10:00pm. We took an Uber. The driver was able to locate the place easily. The area was alive at 11:00pm (not my usual scene when living in the hilton hotel area) ||People are lines along the side walks happily chatting and drinking their drink of choice. ||There was a mini mart a few buildings down which i was really happy to see because i needed to buy a few things at a mini mart. ||This area is more for the young, and the young at heart looking for a fun night out. ||It is not advisable for travelers with children and elder travelers given how alive the place is at night. The hotel also has ALOT of stairs, so it is not handicap friendly and is not advisable for thise who struggle with steps or have big heavy luggages.||The music can be heard until 12:30am/1:00am. So this may not be a good place for light sleepers or people who are counting on a silent night. ||The staff are very friendly and accommodating. But you need to inform them if you are going to check out early because there wasnt any staff to be found at 6:00 am to 7:00am ||When we checked in at night, there was no water in the shower. So i think they turn off the pump at a certain time. But when we called, the staff was very quick and turned on the pump right away. So we were able to take a nice warm shower before bed. ||Their bed was surprisingly comfortable given the price i paid for. And their air conditioning unit was working perfectly. Cold room on a hot tropical night. ||Id say that with the price i paid for... it was worth it and surprisingly a bit better than i had expected. ||We stayed in the room with the...
Read moreThe bottom of the entry door was mouldy and had a gap wide enough for insects to enter, the ceiling corners had mould and bugs and the wall had spitballs of used paper stuck onto it — but the worst was the bathroom. There was gushing coming from behind an obviously leaking toilet (loud enough to be heard from the other side of the room) and the shower was filthy with a plethora of rust and limescale. Being confronted with this scene made one of us turn ill and vomit. We left within the hour after booking with another nearby hotel and notifying the host, who assured us that she would be giving us a...
Read moreThe Oliving residences is a nice, new hotel. The rooms are huge, clean and nice. It is all nice and beautiful until the night begins and the DJ of the Pier 59 (Bar of the same owner under the same roof as the Hotel) starts he work. ||We had two sleepless nights at this place and cancelled our 3rd night and moved out. What a shame for this charming hotel. But, it is the owner's call to decide if he wants to run a hotel or a club. ||This may be a great place for party goer, who won't go to bed before 2am and sleep in in the morning. But definitely not for a young family with...
