Poor communication & lack of service.

It appears that they didn’t want to seat a table for one (which is fine), however I was advised to wait outside until they’re ready by multiple servers.

I was left waiting 20+ minutes when another couple that got there like 10 minutes after me got seated before me LOL. It wasn’t until I actually went up to the register to ask for the third time if they can actually seat me or not that they told me they were “full”, except they had another few groups waiting outside they didn’t advise? Mind you a couple had just left upstairs so I knew they had a table ready but it seems they just wanted to favour another couple that got here after me as well, for profits sake.

Could’ve just told me when I first asked that they don’t do table for 1, instead of me wasting 20+ minutes just standing out there like a blooming idiot? I just wanted to try the duck like I’m sorry I didn’t multiply so I can bring you more checks? I was actually gonna order hella food but yeah whatever underestimate the chill girl

But seriously why did you not SAY THAT YOU CANT SEAT ME FROM THE GET GO?? Now I’m hangry asf & gotta walk around again looking for a meal. Is it that hard to be upfront when running a business? Like yeah your food might be good (I wouldn’t know) but the impression I got from your restaurant is that you would rather profit than customer service. So frustrating 0/10

It was our first time in Hanoi, and our first meal was with Don Duck. We were already aware of them receiving a Michelin nod, but we had to taste the food ourselves to believe.

After settling in our hotel (traveled for almost half a day - including flight, airport transfer, etc), we went straight to their restaurant as they were only one block away. I must say it was the best decision as their food is DELICIOUS! What a great way to kickstart our Hanoi trip and set the bar for the other restaurants we visited subsequently!

We ordered their famous roasted duck breast, crispy duck spring rolls, and roasted duck beef noodle soup – all great! But what really caught our taste buds was the roasted duck breast. It was the best roast duck I've had in my life, like for real!

We went back the next day after a not-so-good dinner experience with a nearby restaurant and ordered the roasted duck breast again – still did not disappoint. The taste and cooking were consistent. Unsurprisingly, we went back today to cap off our trip with a very good dinner.

Service was also very good, staff very friendly and accommodating, and waiting time for the food is reasonable (only about 5-10 mins). Prices were also budget friendly apart from the star dishes, which honestly are still not on the expensive range at all.

Ultimately, Don Duck is a must visit for foodies, especially if you are into duck dishes. The Michelin recognition is...

I have visited Don Duck Old Quarter Restaurant three times for dinner, and each time has been a memorable experience. The owner, Don, has been an amazing host and went out of his way to make us feel at home, especially as we were visiting from India. Not only did he serve us delicious food, but he also took the time to teach us how to eat in the traditional Vietnamese way, which was a unique and fun experience.

Don's friendly and warm personality created a welcoming atmosphere, and his good vibes added to the overall dining experience. He patiently answered our questions about the cuisine and shared interesting insights about Vietnamese culture and customs. It was evident that he genuinely cares about his customers and wants them to have a great time.

The food at Don Duck Old Quarter Restaurant was delicious and authentic, with a wide variety of options to choose from. The flavors were rich and aromatic, and the portions were generous. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and charming, with tasteful decorations that added to the overall dining experience.
