I recently had the opportunity to dine at "Sumo Chou Steak" restaurant in Hanoi's Old Quarter, and my overall experience was quite positive, earning a commendable 4 out of 5 points. The restaurant's prime location in the heart of the Old Quarter makes it easily accessible and convenient to visit at any time of the day, as it remains open throughout.
The restaurant's main focus on steak dishes, including salmon and various salads, was a delightful surprise. The highlight was undoubtedly the unique method of grilling the steaks on hot stones, which elevated the dining experience and provided a tantalizing burst of flavors. The accompanying freshly baked bread was a perfect complement to the juicy steaks.
On the downside, the salad selection lacked any distinctiveness, and the pre-mixed dressing did not leave a lasting impression. However, the main attraction, the steaks, more than made up for this slight disappointment.
One notable drawback was the restaurant's limited space, which created a slightly cramped and warm atmosphere. The lack of air conditioning and ventilation resulted in lingering odors that clung to clothing. Additionally, the service provided by the staff was somewhat lacking in professionalism, resembling more of part-time student employees rather than seasoned waitstaff. This aspect of the dining experience could be improved to further enhance customer satisfaction.
In summary, my visits to "Sumo Chou Steak" were primarily driven by the excellent quality of the food. However, other factors such as the restaurant's ambiance and service should be taken into consideration. Despite the minor drawbacks, I would still consider returning for the delectable steaks and recommend the restaurant to others seeking a unique dining experience in Hanoi's...
Read moreAfter 9 days of traveling throughout VN, my bf desperately wanted a steak. This place was near our hotel. We had the medium steak as well as the garlic steak paired with the sesame salad. The salad was great. Simple. We both enjoyed our steaks with the black pepper sauce. For the price you can’t really beat it. Two steaks, water bottle, tiger beer, and a salad was $13! And both steaks came with a baguette and pate and both were delicious. We also went on a Thursday so there was 25% one of our steaks.
The ambience wasn’t much. Everything was very greasy and oily… I’m sure due to the steaks being cooked on the table but I did see the workers wiping down the tables often. Service was simple but I did wish they would not yell across to one another… made the dining experience very noisy and unpleasant, but the food was good and the price is great. My bf said he wish we found this place days ago, so all in all we would come back if we ever came...

CHOU Steak is absolutely worth the hype! The restaurant was packed when we arrived, but the turnover was quick and the staff managed the crowd efficiently. I loved the lively vibe – it felt energetic but not chaotic.
We ordered both beef and salmon steaks, and they came sizzling hot on a stone plate. The quality of the meat was surprisingly good for the price – tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. The salmon was buttery and perfectly cooked on the hot stone. The combo with salad, fries, and dipping sauces rounded out the meal really well.
Salads were fresh and came with a tangy mustard vinaigrette that paired nicely with the richness of the steak. The fries were crispy, and the bread roll was warm and crusty. A nice touch!
Prices are reasonable, and portion sizes are generous. Definitely a solid choice if you’re craving steak in the Old Quarter. Will be back...
