We had to make a last minute arrangement to stay here due to a cancellation from a different Hoi An homestay. At first they were very nice and accommodating. She called and said the room was ready and they offered to pick us up in Da Nang for 300k. Not a bad price but we decided to use Grab because we had a discount code to use up. 5 minutes before we were to arrive she called and said the room could not be rented because it had "electrical/plumbing issues". We were confused by this as she just told us a half hour prior that everything was ready to go. She gave us the address to her other homestay which was supposed to be much nicer. I can't imagine it was. This place was called the Hoang Thu Homestay and was moldy, horrible bathroom, traces of bed bug fecal matter on the mattress, and not worth the price she charged. It was 9 pm and we had been traveling all day so we stayed one night and left first thing in the morning. I called her out and said I believed she was lying and told her that bait and switch tactics are illegal in most places. I also believe she does this often and doesn't care. I truly think she uses this place to lure guests in with nice photos and cheaper prices and then cancels and sends them to the lower quality establishment that is probably suffering for business and also gives her the opportunity to avoid paying booking.com fees/bad reviews because she had us cancel the stay at Sun Lake.||||We've been in Vietnam for 6 weeks and this is the only time we've felt lied to and/or taken advantage of. Glad this was not our first impression of Vietnam because she was not a good representative. Most people here are welcoming and appreciative. Icing on the cake:. The next morning we left Huong Thursday and she tried to sell us tours, get us a cab and said our room at Sun Lake was ready if we wanted to stay that night. . So between 9 pm - 8am they solved all of the electrical/plumbing issues? Hmm, sure you did. And that's the story of our first night in Hoi An. We've been here 7 days and will be here 5 more but staying at a different establishment. She could have had all 12 days if she wasn't...
Read moreTwo people: 200,000VND (no breakfast). Our double bed room was spacious and so was the bathroom. The AC was fairly quiet compared to others we've experienced and ran fine on auto. The fridge was pretty noisy (also not plugged in when we got there) so we unplugged it again. Overall cleanliness was decent, you need to ask for additional toilet paper though once you're running low. Bicycles are included. The owners replied quickly when we had a question and arranged train tickets for us, too. Now the negatives: they'll try and sell you on tours and tailors and can seem quite pushy. The worst of all though was our departure. We asked for someone to be there at 7am for check out since we had train tickets from Da Nang and needed to catch a bus there. The house keeper texted them and said someone would be there shortly. One of the owners showed up at 7:15am, the receipt hadn't been prepared plus they'll keep your passport until you pay, so we were quite dependent on them. All in all we left there 20mins later than planned which really ruined the experience.
Summary: decent price and accommodation, think twice about their tour offers and plan in some extra time for...
Read moreStayed here for one night in a 4 bedroom dorm with my friend. As soon as we got off the bus one of the owners Flower was trying to sell us on staying there, we were exhausted and from a long ride so we did it plus we are not very picky. The scooter ride there was 2 minuets and ridiculously over priced, the room price was also too much but she gave us a large discount in order to get our business. The room was spacious for a dorm with large non bunk bed beds and big washroom. The mattresses were pretty typical but definitely harder then the average hostel. The room had some mold and was a little dirty but not bad as long as your standards aren’t too high. Flower and her sister who run the homestay are lovely women and very nice but every time we were in the common area they non stop tried to sell us things. From tailor shops to tours, anything. I understand its how they make a living and it’s their jobs but its not the kind of vibe I like, especially when your sitting with your head phones in relaxing and they come try and speak to you about tour....
