Did a last minute sign up for Ms Phi cooking class, joining the group of fellow explorers for the 1/2 day.
We started with a guided tour of a community garden; where we got first hand experience with gardening, Vietnamese style.
At the garden, we squatted to pick the various herbs and greens we would be using in the meals that we would be cooking.
As reward for our gardening efforts, we got a chance to ride bareback on a water buffalo 🐃.
Then we went on a guided tour of the local market, where we gathered more ingredients for the meal. All the while, Ms Phi would give explanation of the various ingredients we picked up.
Then it was time to prep all the ingredients for the meals. Care was taken to respect everyone's dietary requirements. For example, I don't eat pork.
We prepared some "chai" tea, mango salad, spring rolls, a noodle dish and am probably forgetting some.
Trying to cut thin slices of various vegetables, and finely chopping others, was a big challenge (for me, who don't really cook).
I believe everyone had tons of fun, and learn a thing or 2 (especially about riding a water buffalo).
I highly recommend taking Ms Phi cooking class, especially on a rainy day;...

Joining Ms Phi’s Cooking Class was one of the absolute highlights of our trip! 🇻🇳🍽️
It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in traditional Vietnamese cuisine while learning directly from the wonderful Ms Phi — who is not only an incredible cook, but also a truly delightful person. She speaks fluent English, is super welcoming, and guides you step-by-step through the entire experience 🙌
We learned about the history and cultural background of the dishes, and were involved in every part of the cooking process 👩🍳👨🍳 From making two different types of noodles, rolling over 20 (!!) spring rolls, to preparing a refreshing mango salad — every single bite was delicious 😋🥭🍜
Make sure you come hungry because the final meal is a feast 🤯 Portion sizes are huge and you'll want to eat every last bite. Plus, we were offered unlimited bottled water throughout which was such a nice touch 💧
Vegetarians are well looked after too 🌱
Pretty inexpensive also, roughly $30 AUD per person for a 2 hour class.
If you're in Vietnam and love food or cooking — this is a must-do experience. Highly, highly...
Read moreWe can’t recommend Ms Phi’s cooking class enough!! It was one of the best experiences we’ve had in Vietnam, if you want to do a cooking class you won’t find a better one than this! Ms Phi is incredibly passionate about cooking and is so engaging and knowledgable, making the experience very fun yet informative. Her English is amazing and she is very happy to answer any questions you have, as well as to accommodate any dietary restrictions, no matter what it may be. Ms Phi encourages you to be hands on at every stage, and you really feel like you are fully involved in all stages of the cooking process. After the class is finished you are invited to eat the food you have made throughout the class in the beautiful restaurant area upstairs. Afterwards she came and chatted with us some more, and even gave us the recipes to all the things we made!! The whole experience is incredible value for money, you won’t find a better and more authentic Vietnamese cooking class anywhere else. I can honestly and wholeheartedly recommend this to all, you will have no regrets if...
