My evening was a huge disappointment! I hope that the Ritz Carlton management gets to read this review.
To put it in short words, my food was not tasty and the service quality was shocking and embarrassing the Ritz Carlton brand.
We started the evening with an aperitif and asked the waiter if he could already bring us the bread (“cover”/“Gedeck”) while we were looking at the menu and deciding what to order. He refused to bring the bread as it can only be brought after placing the food order. While I was confused about this inflexibility, it turned out that the bread never arrived. In fact, we sat at the restaurant for 1 hour when the steak arrived and we were actually still waiting for the bread.
Along our night, many minor mistakes happened (e.g. no refilling of glasses, not removing the menus/empty bottle, not removing unnecessary cutlery). Those examples simply showed that the waiters were insufficiently trained. The fact that the waiter could not advise/explain me a drink from the menu as he has never tried it serves as another example.
Moreover, serving the wine caused another confusing situation. The waiter served the wine through a measure cup but had to return as the bottle only contained half the portion. Moreover, we were not given the opportunity to try the wine before accepting it.
Talking about my disappointment of the meat, it was not cooked at the quality I desired (also considering the price level). I perceived it as neither tasty nor tender. Therefore, I confronted the waiter and sent it back to the kitchen. After a few minutes the manager brought me back the meat (cut in pieces) stating that the meat was well cooked. My partner and I ended up eating cold steak (which I sent back for a reason) with cold side dishes. Moreover, I ate the steak with a regular knife since the waiter forgot to bring me a new steak knife, which was another service mistake.
After the dinner, I confronted the manager with my disappointment. However, he did not want to hear my complaints and clearly stated that in his opinion the missing bread was the only mistake. When leaving the restaurant he wished me lots of fun and enjoyment at a junk food place (Döner) the next time I eat out.
Sorry dear Ritz company, but especially the behavior of your manager cannot be excused under any...
Read moreWe were truly excited about our short trip to Vienna to celebrate my birthday. However, we were quite negatively surprised by how much had changed in the past ten years since our last visit—unfortunately, not for the better. Just when we had resigned ourselves to disappointment, we stumbled upon this absolute gem of a restaurant. It almost felt like karma: our hotel was just around the corner, and that evening, it was far too cold, and we were too exhausted to search for restaurants. So, we thought, “Let’s give it a try.” Without a reservation, we arrived quite late—almost at 9 PM. And that decision made our entire trip. The experience was nothing short of spectacular—elegant, beautiful, and with an atmosphere that not only invites you in but also builds up your appetite. The selection of steaks left us speechless, but what truly took our breath away was the 100 page wine book, featuring an outstanding selection of wines we know and love. You can tell that a true expert is behind this curation. From the very first bite—just the bread and butter—it was clear that nothing here is ordinary. Every detail is carefully considered. The service was impeccable, worthy of a royal palace, and every staff member spoke perfect English. Nothing was left to chance, not even a request for a gluten-free dish. They resolved it in five minutes, and even the dessert and bread options had gluten-free alternatives. If you are in Vienna and want to create a truly memorable experience—or if you simply wish to dine like royalty at least once in your life—I highly recommend this place. And if you’re also looking for a hotel, since the restaurant is located on the ground floor of The Ritz-Carlton, you’ll have a grand entrance right into luxury. We didn’t take any pictures of the dishes, simply because we were too immersed in enjoying the moment to even think about our phones. But you can find plenty of real, unedited photos on their website—what you see is what you get. This restaurant made our trip, and we will remember this night for a...
Read moreWe are visiting Vienna for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday and decided to spoil ourselves by coming here for dinner to mark the occasion. The atmosphere was lovely, along with the fabulous interior design of the restaurant. To start, the hostess gave us a lovely warm welcome and showed us to our stunning table situated at the window looking out onto the beautiful streets in Vienna. Unfortunately it was all down hill from there. It took a few minutes for someone to give us a menu and then another 15 minutes for someone to take our order, even though it was obvious we were ready. On numerous occasions we had waiters walk by and almost ignore us. Then, we were left sitting for 55 minutes for our meal to arrive which is totally unacceptable and so disheartening. At one stage I flagged the waiter to grab his attention so that we could ask for an update on our food but he ignored me after looking directly at me. Eventually we tried to ask for the bill as we were running really tight on time as we were attending a orchestra concert, but our food arrived right after we asked so we had no choice but to rush our dinner and leave straight away. We are total foodies and don’t mind paying good money for good food, but the service left such a sour taste in our mouths and totally ruined our meal and evening - which is so so upsetting concidering it was my birthday meal. Overall the meal was tasty but to be left waiting almost an hour to get food and still have to pay €250 is not acceptable. I’m really sad to be writing this review as I was really hoping for more and to be blown away. Would not recommend...
