They are back and back with STYLE. New central location (Frauenstr. 11) Undoubtedly, the real Indian food compared to any other pretentious Indian restaurant in Munich. I was there on the very first day, I also provided Manav and Prateek my feedback. So they know they still have a scope for improvement. I ordered Golgappe, Ginger Lemondade, Lachchha Paratha and Chole masala (was served with rice) costed me around 29 Euros. To be frank the portions were big enough to share in 2 :) What I liked: 10/10 for the Food quality and the way it was served. Home made Golgappe (Not bought from the store), Delhi style Chhole and Fresh lemonade (not the one mixed with Sprite)as in many other restaurants. Lachchha paratha served was made of white flour (Maida), I don't know if it was a mis communication with the waiter. Spacious, Nice decor, improved menu options + cocktails. Better opening times, Late night on the weekends, and most importantly the AUTHENTIC INDIAN TASTE. The taste which will make you forget that you are in Munich. Well with all that said there are some drawbacks or scope for improvement: Menu got bit pricey as it has become more like a fine dining close to the city centre. They have a non-Indian staff / Partner, so here you miss the connection with the restaurant which was the key in the old place. Which also causes sometimes Miss communication with the menu order and delivery sequence. Like getting a Naan in place of whole wheat lachchha paratha or chaat and main dishes together. Dishes were not given after the food was kept on the table. As I was alone I could eat directly but I also saw this on the neighbouring table that they had to explicitly ask for the dishes. (So not sure it was a first day malfunctions) Overall, the place stands out with the ambience and the taste which will make us feel in any cosmo city of India. But as it has become fine dining and bit pricier would be ideal for groups and couples but not for the solo eater. Madam Chutney, this review is as from the honest admirer of you and not to put you down. I really appreciate the efforts you are taking, specially when restaurant was not your core business and your honest efforts to bring the real Indian taste to Munich. You are doing a great job and congratulations for the new innings. Wish you ALL THE BEST and keep up the good work. Update 08.08.21 (Changing my rating from 3 to 1 star) After a few recommendations from my friends, I decided to visit the new location with my wife. We ordered 2 mango lassis, Honey chilli Paneer, Pav Bhaji and Chana Batura at 8:05 PM. The mango lassis and honey chilli paneer were served pretty soon. While the Mango lassi tasted amazing, honey chilli paneer was bland and dry. The quantity was also too less for the price paid. (I wouldn’t mind paying the premium if it tasted good) Then started the never ending wait for the main course. Until about 9:15 PM, we just waited while none of the staff ever came to our table with any info about delays in our order. Then we decided to ask them for our order again, and then they served us the main dish within the next 5 minutes. The Chana batura tasted ok (definitely not worth the 17€ price tag though) but the Pav Bhaji was just pathetic. The thing that they served was not Pav but tasted like some bad raw idli (texture wise). I have posted the photo here and it tasted worse than how it looks. We told them about this and they told us that they would replace the Pav. The 2 new pav that they served was no better. So we just had to leave the dish and just return it (we still paid for it fully). The sad thing is that the best tasting item in our dinner was a mixed veg pickle served as a side in the Chana batura(the pickle was really good). I’m sure it was just some mishap in the kitchen, but it could have been handled better in a number of different ways. We were offered one dessert on the house as an apology for the long wait, and we shared it. But that doesn’t explain the bad food even after making us wait for more than an hour. No one asked us if the replaced food was ok, they knew it wasn’t and did not want to confront it. Really sad. Old: Pretty good Indian food. The Chat items were excellent. Taste buds arousing. But then the main course was not that great. Curries were bland and the rice was sticky. I would definitely go back here, but only for the chats and because of the friendly staff here.

Be aware of aggressive service staff while paying!

Our recent visit to Madam Chutney on Saturday, April 7, 2025, left us with mixed feelings. As frequent guests of this charming restaurant, we have always enjoyed bringing our friends along to savor the exquisite Indian cuisine and indulge in the consistently great food that Madam Chutney offers. The ambience has always been inviting, making it a perfect spot for a delightful evening.

However, this time, our experience was marred by disappointing service. After enjoying a lovely meal, I paid the bill of approximately €240 with my credit card and added a tip. To my surprise, the waiter reacted unfavorably, aggressively asking for more. This behavior completely ruined what had been a wonderful dining experience. To alleviate the awkwardness, I reluctantly handed him additional cash, but it did little to restore the enjoyment of our evening.

Given our frequent visits, we felt compelled to discuss this incident with another staff member whom we know. He confirmed that such practices are not acceptable and even encouraged us to voice our concerns via a google review. While I appreciate the effort to address the situation, I find it unfortunate that it escalated to this point.

It’s essential to note that while we are in Munich, the expectations around tipping differ significantly from those in America. A tip of over 10% is not the norm here, and we believe that appreciative service should not come with pressure or intimidation.

As much as we love Madam Chutney, this experience has left us reconsidering our future visits. We hope this feedback raises awareness for the management and contributes to a more pleasant experience for future guests. Great food deserves great service, and we sincerely hope our next visit will...
