This excellent hotel seems still to be a bit of a work in progress - it’s an odd shape and lay out which I’ll leave for you to decipher if you decide to visit. It works well but it’s pretty unique and not like most other hotels. I suspect that conferences and functions are integral in their business plan as the design and layout supports such use.
Anyway, I’m generally not a big fan of Hungarian city centre hotels but based on reputation, we thought we would give the CP a try to see if we might change our opinion. We stayed for one night (incidentally our 16th wedding anniversary)only so please forgive the lack of discussion on any hotel facilities that we have missed.
It’s a new, large frontaged city building facing directly onto the street. It’s not really central for foot access to the main tourist attractions further south. It’s in a shopping street in a predominantly business area north of the main tourist hubbub and next to the excellent Westside mall - to me this hotel is in a nicer part of Budapest and my wife loved the Mall !
OK - we got a nice warm greeting from Alex at reception was accompanied by an early check in - many thanks Alex.
Our junior suite on the 4th (top floor) was really good - all the cleanliness and amenities you would expect except no face flannel(!) great comfy bed, fast internet and plenty of power and USB points.
The interesting “Junior Suite” layout has the TV viewing area in what appears to be a a passageway! No worry, the idea actually works. The location of the room (477)can be seen from my photograph of the 4th floor plan.
All non breakfast food is served in the Axis lounge on the ground floor which actually opens to the street -a pleasant idea. Food here was good and service from Gabor and the serving ladies was super - thanks guys. And thanks also to the Front office for the anniversary gift of a bottle of wine! That was very thoughtful.
A final note on breakfast - it’s the usual large hot and cold buffet with all types of eggs to order but my “over easy” ordered fried eggs were burnt crispy and rock hard. The teacup I had also smelt a bit of disinfectant but its replacement was fine. Hot food serving plates were not provided which meant that hot food cooled too quickly, an issue I have with very many hotel restaurants. Thats about it - apart from these small things, we really enjoyed our stay and we will...

Read moreFull marks to this hotel! We stayed here on the night of 13th June. We'd arrived in Budapest late in the day, tired after a long journey, checked into a different hotel in another part of the city and went out for a quick meal. Returning at about 21:00, we had a problem with the keycard, could not get into our room and no-one answered the "virtual reception" on the out of hours phone number. We tried for several hours without success and contemplated what to do. At midnight, as it was clear the issue wasn't going to resolve itself and facing a choice of sleeping on the reception floor or finding somewhere else to stay for the night, we decided to ring the Crowne Plaza. We weren't hopeful - it was late, the city was busy and a glance of available hotels didnt show much availability. However, the Crowne Plaza were so helpful and booked us in to one of the last few remaining rooms. A short taxi ride across the city and we arrived, exhausted and stressed after our ordeal of the past three hours.
On arrival we were met calmly at reception by Viktoria, who was so incredibly welcoming and looked after us so well. As all of our belongings were locked away in our other hotel, Viktoria supplied us with some amenity kits, some water and above all showed genuine empathy for our situation. She checked us in efficiently and courteously, and we were finally able to get some much needed sleep. The room was, as expected, comfortable, clean and well appointed.
On checking out, again the interaction with the staff was exceptional. It appeared that Cefarina and Patrik had been informed about our situation by Viktoria and were both so lovely about everything. Again, the manner in which the staff spoke to us was exemplary.
We hope to return to Budapest some day and if we do, this would be our hotel of choice.
Finally, and above all, please pass on our thanks to Viktoria, Cefarina and Patrik - all three truly are a credit...
