Sammy's Exotic Gems — Local services in Pulau Bali

At first, I was thrilled to find the perfect ring at Sammy’s Exotic Gems while visiting Bali. I was searching for a green princess or cushion-cut ring, and I wasn't worried about the price. However, when I found this ring, it felt like fate. A beautiful green amethyst set in silver, bought to celebrate my 50th birthday. The staff were charming, the vibe was warm, and I walked away thinking I’d found something truly special.

But just four days later, the stone fell out. Yep - gone. No knock, no drop, no reason. Just cheap, flimsy craftsmanship pretending to be quality. I contacted the store straight away, expecting some kind of support. Instead? A whole lot of sweet talk and absolutely no accountability.

Their solution? Wait until I return to Bali (might be years), or send the ring back overseas at my own cost and maybe they’ll speak to someone higher up. Spoiler: no refund offered, just the runaround. Apparently, once it’s sold, your problem is no longer their problem — even when it falls apart days after purchase.

Thankfully, I had travel insurance and got my money back. But if I didn’t? I’d be out nearly 3 million IDR for a ring that couldn’t survive a week.

Bottom line: don’t be fooled by the charm. This place does not stand behind its products. The craftsmanship is poor, and the after-sales support is all words, no action. If you’re buying jewellery in Bali, steer well clear unless you’re happy to gamble your money — and your gem.

I see the owner is now asking for my WhatsApp details, I had been in contact with them through WhatsApp for a while to try and fix this before I reviewed here. I can only speak for the beaded purse selection - but WOW!!!! While driving through Bali I noticed beaded purses in the window, and I am so grateful I went to check it out.
