3 Stars⭐⭐⭐ I gave this place 5 stars on TripAdvisor about 2 years ago but this year I feel this place is losing its touch or more that Ubud moved on and that Fair Warung has been left behind.
Most noticeably was the waiter. He had very little training. I'm cool with no experience and good training but this guy had no experience and no training. I'm actually regretting that I gave him too much of a tip. I gave have him the standard 10% and he was probably only worth 2%.
The waiter took an order from us and we explained that bell peppers were a no go that my partner was allergic and loan behold the food arrived out with peppers in it. The result if she took Bell peppers would have been that you would have heard the burps as far as Ubud Palace. It took 2 seconds to take the papers out, but if she was celiac or had a nut allergy the consequences might have been more dangerous. (For the record we mush of explained this for about 45 seconds. We first said "no peppers" and made sure he understood that. When he comprehended it, he said ar you allergic and we confirmed.)
One of the meals that we ordered had no tempeh and the waiter came back out to tell us there was no tempeh which was no problem. He then proceeded to take the order from the next table and had forgotten that 2 minutes ago that there was no tempeh.
One of the best selling points of this place in the past was the quality of staff and this is no longer the case.
The food is actually OK. Except in the 4 years, I'm coming here the rice portion is too small. The rice portion has always been too small when compared to all other Bali restaurants. I wouldn't mind but the rice is usually one of the cheaper components of most dishes they serve here. I keep getting caught out with this, I just keep forgetting how stingy the rice portion is.
Just so the review isn't all negative. The taste of the food was lovely. The menu was a good size. The dining area is well designed. I got a chilled glass's served with my beer which is important because the beer takes on the temperature of the glass. The waiter was a really nice man. The music was good.
Conclusion: All in all the restaurants in Ubud have come a long way in the last 3 years that you won't regret giving Fair Warung a miss. This place is past its a sell-by date.
Review 2017 (TripAdvisor) 5...
Read moreCame here with great expectations but sadly the food was a complete disappointment. The very famous rainbow salad with the papaya was a disaster. Weird combination of tastes; the ingredients did not match with each other at all. Also it was super cheap quantity-wise, only two pieces of shrimp :/ . Then the red tuna with the tomato balsamico; the fish was very badly prepared, it was too soggy. Finally, the crispy tempeh and tofu from the appetizers were very bland. Thumbs up for the good cause, but their core business is really bad.
**I had to edit my review after the owner’s response. The reason why us customers write reviews is because we want our opinions to be published and shared openly with others. I am not in any way trying to turn anyone against neither the business itself nor the owner. Nevertheless, I will not let this go without expressing myself. Also, I want to make some things clear because the owner does not seem to understand my comment.
Firstly, I never mentioned anything about the foundation or its operations. I solely commented on the restaurant and the products it serves to the customers. The owner has to accept that this is his business for the customers like me. The business is a restaurant no matter if it is a collaborative, an NGO, or multinational conglomerate. I did not go there for the NGO’s brilliant deeds to those in need but for the food.
So getting back to the food, unfortunately it did not meet our expectations at all. It was not just mediocre; it was bad. I don’t easily make such strong comments, but it was really badly made. Taste, preparation and presentation all failed. The owner should live with that; customers have the right to express their dissatisfaction. Instead of bragging about knowing everything about the small kitchen and the dishes, maybe he should be concerned whether something is actually wrong with the food. Also, the small kitchen is no excuse for execution. I have worked in smaller kitchen where and we managed to make really good food. This was just unprofessional.
Whether our opinion reflects the reality is left for future...
Read moreABSOLUTELY RUDE & RUINED OUR ANNIVERSARY AFTER WE PAID A LOT FOR THEIR CHARITY. NO APOLOGY. MEDIOCRE OVERPRICED FOOD. WILL. NEVER. RETURN.
I went here a dinner date to celebrate our anniversary with my boyfriend who travelled all the way from Switzerland for his first trip to Bali. We waited 2.5 HOURS for literally 2 dishes and 2 drinks. The table before us who came in later and has 6 people GET SERVED FIRST. My boyfriend kept me very entertained, but even with that i realized it took suspiciously WAY too long, only to realize 1.5 hours has passed. I went to the waiter to notify them about the wait and ask if they could check if the kitchen has our order (politely), and went back to my seat.
Few moments later a staff came to me and that woman BERATED THE HELL OUT OF ME for basically not shutting up. And my very mediocre food came in 1 hour later. That whole thing took 2.5 HOURS.
Earlier we literally paid a huge sum for their charity option, only then to be treated this RUDE. They literally RUINED OUR ANNIVERSARY and they don't care. I will NEVER step foot into this place again, especially with the unremarkable food that is so unremarkable and overpriced for how mediocre they are. I had Tom Yum that taste like nothing except chilli and trust me I am a local, I can handle heat very well. It's just plain bad.
You will get better taste, better price and definitely BETTER ATTITUDE...
