Amazing coffee. This is the place to go if you're in need of a good espresso-based coffee in Ubud.
Most coffee in Ubud seems to be dark roast, from my limited experience, and the coffee is not often treated with the delicate touch it needs to be truly great. Anomali manages to get their expresso perfectly but more than that they know how to froth milk properly and to pour a good latte as well. In my travels I have found this a rare combination.
More than that they are consistent in being excellent. This is an exceptionally rare trifecta wherever you find yourself.
I often avoid piccolo lattes and short macchiatos even at home for the simple fact that it's hard to get a barista to be skilled enough to make it well. Usually I have a latte so that the extra milk hides the bitter, overextracted espresso. Not so with Anomali, however.
This place feels touristy because it's for tourists. Make no mistake about it. And it's priced accordingly. But don't go fooling yourself into thinking that the coffee stalls on the side of the road are any more "authentic" or non-touristy. If you want to get some magical, authentic coffee experience in Ubud then I wish you good luck. If you want a place that has that same damn soundtrack playing on loop with cheap, kitsch Bali paintings on the wall then go elsewhere. You'll be able to find those cafes anywhere.

Read moreThe food is delicious, the coffee is nothing special. Flat-white bitter, cappuccino sour. The most disappointing thing is that the prices neither in the menu nor on the scoreboard do not coincide with those at which the cashiers count. I have told them about it several times, but they do not change anything and only say that the prices that the buyer sees from last year. And on the offer to update them to real ones, the answer is - we can't do that. I suspect that the owner of the coffee shop is deceiving customers who are not careful enough when counting. Despite the fact that it is delicious here, this fact spoils the whole impression. I don't recommend it if you don't want to be deceived. When the prices in the menu are updated, I will...
