IL MICROMOSAICO — Local services in Rome

Around two years ago my friend, sister, and I stumbled upon this shop in Rome, we met the lovely artist and her husband, who were very welcoming and enthusiastic. They shared so much about themselves and their work, especially when they learned our own backgrounds in art and history. Luigina's work is exemplary, and really reflects the years she spend as an apprentice and micro mosaics at the Vatican. It was also an exemplary experience in working with a local artist, she was so accommodating to our requests, and even changed a colour on our final custom ring bc there had been some miscommunication. It was a great experience overall, and the ring and artwork still look really beautiful 2 years in. My sister and I got a custom ring for my mom, and its such a special and memorable piece. Visiting this shop is a MUST if you are looking for pieces of inspired & gorgeous art. Luigina truly is a master of her craft, creating such unique and vibrant pieces of, in this case, Mirco Mosaic jewelry.

I had the unique honor of being able to purchase 2 rings. She taught me how to properly care of them (for example: using the proper cloth for cleaning) and even adjusted the ring size for a perfect fit.

You will be able to find a wonderful selection of jewelry in her shop: earrings, rings, & brooches. As well as art pieces that include paintings and Mirco Mosaics.

If I could, I would visit more often to see what new creation are being made there. Definitely do yourself a favor and check the shop out & admire the detail, craft, and beauty...

"Il micromosaico" è un laboratorio che trabocca di cose belle, di cui raccomando calorosamente la visita. Luigina, la titolare, è un'artista di grande livello che ha imparato direttamente dagli ultimi maestri questa tecnica tipicamente romana e che, con generosa ospitalità, mi ha spiegato le origini di una eccellenza locale ancora -purtroppo- sconosciuta ai più. Il micromosaico è infatti una tecnica elaborata nel Settecento dai maestri mosaicisti del Vaticano affinché i viaggiatori del Gran Tour, dopo aver ammirato le bellezze della Città Eterna, potessero portarne un piccolo pezzo con sé attraverso un'opera che ricordasse la classicità sia nelle forme che nei contenuti. Questa arte è stata coltivata nel corso dei secoli per arrivare fino a noi e Luigina è una delle poche rimaste a mantenerla ancora viva, con grande impegno, dedizione e passione: insieme al marito Pino si reca appositamente a Venezia per scegliere il vetro che sarà poi filato rigorosamente a mano, tagliato e disposto in composizioni le cui dimensioni sono inversamente proporzionali alla maestria necessaria per crearle. Basta visitare il laboratorio o consultare il suo sito per apprezzare la mirabile esecuzione di temi e stili, originali e su commissione, in micromosaico ma anche attraverso tecniche differenti e molto particolari che Luigina e Pino vi illustreranno con grande disponibilità e calore umano. Per questo dunque, che siate di Roma o no, raccomando caldamente una visita in questo piccolo angolo di Monti: per riscoprire la bellezza di un'arte complessa e sempre più rara e concedervi un regalo prezioso, o anche solo per lasciarsi avvolgere dalla simpatia e dalla gioiosa veracità di Luigina e Pino, due "romani de Roma" come non ne fanno più.
