Well, speaking of unethical marketing, this one here ranks really high on the list of shame. I am not reluctant to say that it's close to being a scam. First of all, if you really wish to do this nevertheless, don't go for the more expensive option that includes a "free bar" and "pizza buffet". Yes, the bar is free, so to speak, but no, it isn't worth it because you spend very little time in the first bar (one of only two pubs you'll visit that night) to enjoy this amenity — which is, in my opinion, fully calculated by the "company" (this one guy who runs the whole thing and will "guide" you through the evening, about whom I will have to say more later). We were just about 10 people, which came as a surprise to us, so theoretically there would have been much more scope to take advantage of the "free bar". But as I said, you won't be there long enough to actually get much out of it, other than chugging down every beer. Second, the so-called "pizza buffet" was a ridiculous joke. Yes, there was pizza (the cheapest Margherita you could imagine), which was literally handed out on a platter — even in a way that seemed to limit the consumption of this cheap pizza. That’s the point where I really call it completely unethical marketing, bordering on fraud. You can't talk about a pizza buffet and then just hand out a cheap-ass Margherita. I will make use of the word "unethical" again later. That being said, we went to the next pub (a karaoke place) and then eventually to the club. There's not much to say about either — it was alright. We were just a few people, so the ambiance was rather lame, but the guy can't necessarily be blamed for this (except for raising expectations that there would always be a lot of people participating in the pub crawl and not cancelling when too few sign up). The last thing that has to be said about the whole evening is about the guy himself, when we entered the club. I guess it's perfectly normal to try to have fun as well when you're running a pub crawl as the organizer — that’s kind of your mission if you want to cheer people on (not necessarily saying he did a good job at that — I think he just sees dollar signs when he looks at the guests). But flirting in a very sleazy way in the club with one of the female "guests" (a friend of ours), saying things like "I'm no longer your tour guide, it's my time off now, let's go somewhere else together," is just a bit pathetic — and again, unethical. I guess that's why he does the job, apart from the easy money of course, but still — with all the other points I listed, it leaves a very bad impression, and as a customer, you feel cheated, because it's clear that it's all about profit for him and not about providing value for money or a good experience...
Read moreI have been studying abroad since late August and I first came to this pub crawl sometime in mid September. I had plans for that day, but they did not happen. So I went to eventbrite and looked at Rome events near me and this event showed up. I was intimidated at first because it was just me going, along with a sea of people I have never met before.
Long story short, I have met so many amazing people from these nights and I still keep in contact with them (all over the world). I have been here at least 5 times and plan on going until my semester ends in December. I've brought some of my friends with me and they loved it equally as much!
Don't even get me started on the hospitality... it is AMAZING! You wouldn't think that 2-3 people are enough to handle 30+ people, but these people are truly the dream team. They greet everyone with such a smile on their face and have a great attitude all the time!
Much love to this team and I will surely miss it once I leave Rome. It has been such a staple of my study...
Read moreNot for Solo Asian Travelers. I’ve seen many positive reviews online, and I believe others had fun but unfortunately that wasn’t my case.
After registering, a staff took me to a bar table and then left me there without any further instructions. 15 mins later, he led new joiners to a different area across the bar and walked past me. He only said I can get pizza from the bar table but then disappeared again.
As the only Asian in the pub and 1st time visitor to Italy, I felt confused and excluded. No one paid attention or explained to me what was happening, leaving me lost in a crowd focused only on the American football game.
So I asked the receptionist if any group activities were going on but she simply said, “We will leave in 10 mins for the next bar” — and that’s it. I ended up wasting 30 mins and €35 for just a beer and few slices of pizza…
This was the worst pub crawl experience, felt completely excluded. If I only want to mingle by myself, then why should I pay for this party instead of going to...
