Das Amidado-mon ist das beeindruckende Haupttor des Higashi Hongan-ji Tempels in Kyōto, einer der zwei großen Zentren des Jōdo-Shinshū-Buddhismus. Es wurde im 19. Jahrhundert wiederaufgebaut, nachdem frühere Versionen durch Brände zerstört worden waren. Das Tor gehört zu den größten Holztoren Japans – und das spürt man auch: mächtig, aufwendig verziert und architektonisch beeindruckend. Es markiert den Eingang zum Amidado (Amida-Halle), dem Hauptgebäude des Tempels, das dem Amida-Buddha gewidmet ist. Trotz seiner Größe wirkt es sehr harmonisch – typisch für japanische Tempelarchitektur. Der Higashi Hongan-ji selbst ist ruhiger und weniger überlaufen als viele andere Sehenswürdigkeiten in Kyōto, was ihn zu einem tollen Ort für authentische Eindrücke und stimmungsvolle Fotos macht.
