We purchased 6 chopsticks and 4 wooden cases. The chopsticks are a lot more expensive than the other tourist shops, and they charge for engraving (400yen).
Be prepared to what a long time for your chopstick engraving. The process is very slow. We had to wait overnight for the chopsticks.
We asked the lady to engrave the cases in Japanese only. We waited 2 additional hours for the boxes. The boxes were engraved also in English wrongly.
They couldn't provide us with new boxes due to stock, and I couldn't be bothered to wait yet another day for this - especially since we are leaving kyoto.
The shop provided no other alternatives, other than a complete refund and no boxes. They should've at least refunded the engraving cost as a goodwill gesture for their own error.

We continued to look at the hundreds of chopstick rest in the shop, and while we were browsing, she approached us to notify us that our products were ready. I totally...
Read moreI went to a few different chopsticks shops in Kyoto I thought this one was top quality I really splurged and bought a one of a kind pair of chopsticks and had them engraved (¥18,500) about $130 usd. I was in love with them until I ate with them, rinsed them and dried them with a paper towel and the red coating started coming off. Mind blown this is acceptable to sell especially in Japan. Chopsticks I paid ¥1100 for are doing better than these. Super disappointed I feel like I got ripped off beyond just paying that much for the pair in the...
