I have had loved artisan knifes since I was a teenager, which was since more than 20 years ago, and I finally switched from JA Henkels to Shun last year. This TDI knife shop is by far the best knife shop I have come across over the years in Japan, not only because of the choice of knife they sell, but also the professional help offered by the store manager Makoto. I want to give my highest praise to this manager, for the depth of his knowledge about knife, and his positive attitude towards my long list of long unanswered questions. His English was really good with rather accurate pronunciations which was rare amongst these kind of shops and made communication much easier as there are lots to tell about the knives.

I purchased my set of three Shun knives, a chopper plus a bread knife in Hong Kong Kai Shop, but i felt like the information I was getting was inadequate. Makoto had answered all my questions in a much informative way. He knows his products at expert level. Secondly, he was very warm, helping and encouraging as I told him about my doubts and lack of confidence in sharpening my knives because I was really worried about ruining them. I use them every day and I treasure them, but at the same I was very self conscious about having them chipped. He answered with elegance, warmth, acceptance and respect. I also asked him to show me how to sharpen knives. He talked about the angles and the amount of pressure to add to the knife and more particulars to pay attention to.

This shop is not a cheap one, but everything is reasonably priced for the quality. Their product ranges from ¥8000 for a set of three knives to +¥40000(or might be even more that I didn’t see). My advice is to try to think of what you want to know about knives, like storage, your needs, sharpening, types, choose of chopping boards, etc. and cross your fingers that you won’t be in a wave of visitors, so that the store keepers would have the time to answer you. The other two male shop keepers were very helpful too and they could speak English as well. I bought two more smaller knives and I’m delightful now my collection is complete (at least for a while). The tiny key chain scissors were real sharp and handy. This was genuinely a 10/10 experience. I happened to take a look in another TDI shop and staff there could speak English as well but since that I already made a purchase, I just looked around quickly. I would recommend this place to my friends who want to get...

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting TDI ナイフショップ twice during separate trips to Tokyo, and each time has been an absolute delight. The staff here are nothing short of amazing—patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful.

On my first visit last November, I purchased a knife that I still use to this day. It’s held up beautifully, a true testament to the quality of their products. On my most recent trip, I decided to purchase two matching knives—one for my mother and one for myself. The staff went above and beyond to assist me, from helping translate my name and message from English into Japanese for the engraving, to guiding me toward the perfect items for my needs.

Their attention to detail and willingness to ensure you leave with exactly what you’re looking for is unmatched. I highly recommend exploring their entire selection, but don’t miss their nail clippers—they’re only 1,800 yen and worth every yen. The quality is exceptional, and I’ve found them to be far superior to anything else I’ve used.

TDI ナイフショップ isn’t just a place to buy knives—it’s an experience, and one that I can’t recommend enough. Honest, skilled, and customer-focused, this shop sets the bar for quality and service.

Thank you for making each...

I cannot recommend this place enough, with fiercely competitive prices and world class service.

Makoto the store manager’s level of service is simply unmatched. He was incredibly honest and upfront about everything, which I really appreciated.

He wasn’t trying to push his products or make a quick sale from me and my partner (which we deeply appreciated as foreigners who were gift shopping) No surprises—just straight talk.

What really stood out was how he made us feel like as valued customers. He took the time to answer all our questions and were super knowledgeable. It's rare to find a place that goes out of its way to make sure you're completely satisfied, but he nailed it.

The whole process was smooth and easy, (he was fluent in English so that made everything a lot easier) From the first chat to the final service, everything was handled perfectly. He went above and beyond, even going into an offside store to source something that perfectly met our needs.

If you're looking for a store that combines great value on a wide selection of knives, great service, and a fantastic customer experience, look no further. Highly recommend!

Thanks...

Visited here recently to buy a couple knives, they have friendly and knowledgeable staff. I bought a honesuki and a sashimi knife, I wanted a particular style which they had. The prices were reasonable, I could pay by credit card, and they could process the sale as tax free, you need to bring your passport. I was very happy with my purchases, have already used them, and am very happy with the wispy. Highly recommended.
