Male is a very busy, congested town where some areas are quite dirty. It’s not a town to nicely stroll in. Souvenir are super expensive but at least the seller are not so aggressive to sell like in Thailand. They will not bargain or haggle for prices so expect to pay top price for a simple magnet souvenir. If you’re a vegan, you won’t have too much luck in food choices and the island don’t even have tofu. The water is beautiful, but unfortunately there were a lot of plastic trash thrown in the sea where the boats are parked. Very industrial and residential- sadly that translates to pollution, unlike the other tourist island in Maldives. Read moreFull of people that don't respect public places, terrible to walk by the sidewalks (when you have it), most of the time you are blocked at the corners with motorcycles so you can't cross the street unless you walk back. No traffic guards to educate drivers how to to drive properly giving the city an aspect of chaos. There are no trash bins and consequently the streets are not clean.
