Wanted to give this place 5 stars, but I had to deduct a star for the exchange rate. I’ll explain later in this review.
This hydro circuit is a must while staying here. It’s the best I’ve seen anywhere with clean facilities, attentive service, and wonderful amenities. It’s smaller than most with one of each of the essentials: sauna, steamroom, and hot/warm/cold bath. There are a couple pressure showers and cold bucket plunges. Beautiful place to spend a few hours and worth the $16 to visit even if not opting for the pricier massages. There are also great showers there, plus unsweetened iced herbal teas.
A couple of things could be improved. Check the temperatures regularly. The cold bath was 61, not the 65-68 range listed. Those few degrees made the bath more dangerous, and I felt it as soon as I stepped inside. The steamroom has a lovely essential oil diffused in the steam, but it made me cough. Given the research around risks of breathing in essential oils, it could be good to get rid of. I suspect most people only use it for a few minutes, but that’d be safer long-term.
The reason for the loss of the star is the pricing strategy. The spa charges in dollars, then bills in pesos at an exchange rate ~15% higher. You can’t pay in dollars. So either charge/bill in pesos or allow people to pay in dollars. You’re essentially forcing people to pay a 15% higher price than advertised, and that sort of poor business practice is inexcusable from such a high-priced, fancy spa. It’s incongruent with the rest of the spa. If not for the exchange rate ploy, this place would be an easy 5 stars. I recommend adding 15% to their prices when deciding to go here, or using their exchange rate to convert pesos to dollars, then the real rate back to dollars, to see how much...
Read moreAlthough the staff and facilities are fantastic, I treated myself to the 3D Collagen Face firm and lift which is the most expensive and the longest facial they have. At 5200 pesos I was expecting a royal treatment. I would have to put this as my worst facial I’ve ever received. No skin assessment when I entered the room, no explanation of what was being applied to my face, no red light or micro-current or any type of facial rejuvenation equipment was used, no oxygenation machine, not even derma-planing was offered. Even the “lymphatic drainage” massage was less thorough then my regular morning routine. I hate being harsh but save your money for a massage or a different facial at half the cost. The true highlight was the staff and facilities as the sauna, steam room, hot tub and cold plunge circuit was top notch and left me feeling completely relaxed and...
Read moreThe Desert Spa is a must if you are visiting Cabo San Lucas and staying at a Villa Group property. The service from the time you enter and leave is outstanding. Each staff member was courteous and attentive, made my wife and I feel like royalty.
The spa provides lockers for your belongings, robe, and slippers. You have the option of showering before or after your treatment. You also have access to the jacuzzi, cold plunge, hydra rainfall showers, sauna, and more after your message.
You will be presented with options to upgrade the type of oil used for your message, but you don't have to, however if you do, you get to take home the remaining product.
The spa also has a full workout facility.
