This was one of the highlights of our trip and a must do for anyone visiting Cabo. Our cooking class began with meeting chef Issa who was so friendly and knowledgeable about the area (his home) and about the foods and spices in the area. We first went to the local markets to shop for the vegetables, spices and then the butchers for the meat. Then via van we went to his house. Yes! I said his house! His mother was there to greet us. She is so sweet! The house/kitchen is very clean and beautifully decorated. Then it was time to get started. He gave easy to follow instructions and demonstrated each step. By the time we were finished we had made homemade tortillas, salsa 3 ways and tender meat for the birria taco. Not to mention the perfect margarita. Eveyone was happy and full. If you have to, put this on your first thing to do list for Cabo or I promise you'll miss a wonderful experience. I look forward to taking another class. I hear his sister does them too. We got a chance to meet her and her family. They are currently remodeling their restaurant which I look forward to visiting. It will be open soon. After everything was said and done our group was taken back to where we started with smiles on our faces. A...
Read moreOh my goodness, we had such a ball here. From the moment we arrived, the host Karina made us feel like she was welcoming in family. There was a dj who also played live music and sang for us during the experience ( it wasnt obnoxious and was all well-timed). She gave background about how her roots and how the family business was formed. The instruction for the cocktails and foods were smooth with each station properly prepared and the team in the background cleaned and switched everything out so smoothly in between lessons. We barely realized it was happening. It was very well organized. All of the food and drinks were excellent! There were plenty of option for non-meat eaters. We actually learned quite a bit including several new dances, no pressure for those with 2 left feet. There were plenty of ways to interact. We got some history on the making of tequila and got to sample a lot of different types that are not mass-produced brands. Very good. We left with full bellies, and a little or a lot of tipsy depending on personal preferences, and enough dancing to not feel bad about not going to the clubs/bars in the area. And we met some really cool people too. Don't...
Read moreMy wife and I love doing cooking classes wherever we travel, and our private class with Chef Carolina and her mother through Cookin Cabo was no exception. We met with Carolina at their location near the marina and visited a small market to select produce. We then made quick stops at a local cheese and masa vendor to pick up more ingredients, and drove to Carolina’s mother’s house for the class itself.
We wanted to make lamb barbacoa as our main course and Carolina made it happen despite our limited time. We also made four salsas, queso fundido with mushrooms, rajas, guacamole, fresh tortillas, and, of course, margaritas. All the food was restaurant quality and totally delicious. Both Carolina and her mom provided great instruction while letting us do our own thing. We also loved that the class took place in a home since folks we got to meet Carolina’s lovely family in the process.
If you’re looking for a quality cooking class in Cabo or want to do something more local in flavor, Cookin Cabo is an excellent way to spend an afternoon. We are looking forward to recreating the dishes we had during our class and still thinking about all the delicious...
