Turibus Tours — Local services in Mexico City

We got the hop on and off day pass thinking we could see a lot of CDMX. No luck with the free WiFi after trying a couple of times. Audio sys needs maintenance. Had to fiddle with audio jacks to get them to work. There are four routes but traffic was so bad in the afternoon and evening (on a Tuesday...weekends must be constant gridlock) we only got through half of the red centro line first and then the full yellow Chapultepec line (has fewer stops than centro with a lot being high-end shopping). The yellow line was an hour waiting for the bus to show up at the combined red/yellow stop and then 3 hours sitting in traffic listening to occasional narration but mostly to the music which was ok at first but grew annoying as we sat in gridlock and as the temperature dropped going into the dark evening hours. Not being sure when another red bus would show up or if it would get us back to our starting point before 9pm, we gave up on the buses at 8pm and figured out (thanks google!) how to get back to Bellas Artes with the metro. So aside from 3 hours at Templo Mayor that was our experience. If you do it, I recommend being very discriminating about what you decide to see and have low expectations on how fast the buses get around especially after 3pm....maybe stick to centro line which seemed the best part of the tour. On the plus side, buses were clean, people friendly, and those drivers can really nail lots of tight turns, some hairpins on narrow streets in traffic....

Cons: wifi is bad, your lucky if it works rude handlers buses leave before designated time. Even before the time the handler personally tells you. handler told us "your too early go shopping for 20 minutes, we will leave in 25 minutes" then started to leave after 18 minutes. We were lucky we were in a store right in front. the driver and handler change the route when traffic is high... instead of being honest about the traffic they just say "we will not be going on the mapped out route but we will be dropping you off close to your destination"... jokes on you it's not close and they might drop you off in a dangerous major intersection that you will need to somehow cross, and without telling you how long you have to wait for another bus to "deal with you"

The view from the upper deck is nice. Sad that that is the only positive comment I can make. They make you wait fir buses, wait on the buses then wait some more. I spent three times as much time waiting ad I did riding. The guide they give you as to the stops is useless because what is printed there, what is announced, and what you see on the street are all quite different. There is supposed to be an audio guide but it was usually not available and the various buses did not have the same jack--some sudio, some usb. I made one stop and regretted it. I asked when the bus would return and was told every 25 minutes. I stood for an hour and five minutes and was starting to call an Uber when it finally showed up. There is no toilet on board so that is a predicament if you can't get off without being stranded for over an hour, can't get a toilet break or eat. They have five circuits but with all the delays and waiting, that would take a week, not a day. What a disappointment . A little good management would...
