As an ex TripAdvisor destination expert for Marrakech for16 years and a cooking classes manager for 23 years , I have been in and out of many spice shops in Marrakech. Some are great; others are terrible or expensive. My favorite is Herboristerie Marocaine on Rue Dar Elbacha. If you' re looking for top quality spices such as Ras El Hanout- 35 spice blend, or Saffrom from Taliouine or genuine Argan oil, Herboristerie Marocaine is the ideal place The owner , Abderrahim , is a young , ambitious, and affable man with many years of experience. He is patient and willing to share his knowledge of spices for culinary as well as medicinal uses. What I like about the shop albeit small is its central location, on a clean and wide street so you dont have to venture inside the labyrithian alleys of the Medina and be pestered by false guides. There is also no pressure to buy. You can look, hear the explanation and feel free to walk away. Abderrahim is also an excellent masseur if you are ever tempted My recommendation for spices especially Ras Elhanout is to opt for the brown not the red version which is spicy hot. Rather ask for the former which is a combination of spices and dried herbs and goes best with savoury tagines like meat with dried fruits.
The shop has ointments pigments and other interesting creams. A must-stop...

Read moreWe took a cooking class in La Maison Arabe and were told that this is a good place to buy quality spices. They certainly were correct. We bought some great spices to cook Morrocan food (such as tagine) and also bought very nice Argon oil. The owner is a great guy, very helpful and not at all pushy. His prices are also very reasonable and he even gave us some discounts and gifts. This will be my go to address in Morocco for herbs. Thank...
