I'm going to base this review on the almighty almond croissant. The owners of Glory are a dynamic husband and wife team, and let me tell you, this place is a bona fide, no-additives, made-from-scratch daily patisserie. The wife, who doubles as the front-of-house magician, took the time to chat with us and was utterly delightful. Her husband, the patissier, has been baking since the tender age of 16 in Hong Kong, so you know he's got some serious skills.
Now, my sometimes over-enthusiastic partner declared that the almond croissant was, in the words of Jeremy Clarkson, "simply the best in the world." That's some mighty high praise to live up to, or as Clarkson Clarksons Farm could this be a bit of "Diddly Squat"?
Glory is just off the main high street, nestled near a charming little park that caters to all sorts of food enthusiasts. Me and my partner had always been a baguette fan. We heard the place is good so we come here to give their pastry a try. Unfortunately, out of 4 items we bought, the plain croissant was the best. It’s crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with perfect layers.
But the baguette, it was too hard to chew. I’m not over exaggerating. My sister is the one who had the first bite and she said it was really hard that she doesn’t want to eat it anymore. I didn’t believe it until I had it. We have to throw the whole baguette away.
For the canele, the texture inside was off. A canele was supposed to have a beautiful texture fully filled the inside but half of it was empty and it was chucky inside.
For the strawberry danish, it could be using old strawberry that’s not fresh anymore that after we brought it home, the strawberry juice leaked out in the box so we have to transfer it to the plate and the colour was brownish...
