This gym is FANTASTIC and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
It's so refreshing walking into a gym and being made to feel like I am being delivered five star service when I'm not a bronzed adonis or muscle bound gym junkie. I'm your average middle-aged bloke doing what's needed to look after myself and my health.
I find the other reviews interesting as I have had the pleasure of meeting all the staff and there is no blonde woman working at the gym at all. I'm not sure if that reviewer has accidentally mistaken this gym for another in Newmarket.
The five star service I received at the gym saw me sign up immediately after just one visit and leave my existing gym, where I was simply treated as a number and had to constantly put up with broken equipment and other gym goers who didn't treat the gym well. I have not found this at all and am thrilled with my decision to change gyms, even though I pay a little more. The extra few dollars a week are worth it. I'm also travelling a little further to get to Flex, but it's a great warm up (and cool down on the walk home) and the conditions make the extra walk worthwhile.
The decor and fit out at Flex Fitness Newmarket, Auckland, is very tastefully done and looks fantastic. There is superb lighting and great sounds throughout the gym that get even my lazy bones motivated.
While it might not be to everyone's taste, this gym has grabbed my attention; given me the shake up I needed to get motivated and stay motivated; and the staff have been nothing short of marvellous. Chatting to other people training there, I am certainly not alone in my love of this gym and I cannot recommend the gym nearly enough! It is, in my opinion, nothing short...
Read moreHas gone massively downhill since new ownership which is a huge let down! Some new equipment which is good & new vending machine but other than that current issues: Squat rack is round the wrong way ie: not facing the mirrors The toilets/showers are not as clean Lack of hand towels & wipes to wipe down equipment It’s a mess - equipment is never put away & the general gym is not as tidy It has turned into an ‘influencer’ gym, new members constantly videoing themself making content, there used to be a rule around this??? Ie: videoing is fine if not including other members & making them feel uncomfortable - especially when they are making grunting - off putting noise for the camera when they are actually lifting less than most of the women in the gym… Using cardio areas to practice posing during the busiest time in the gym ie: between 4pm & 8pm - not really fair on members trying to train - taking up space that we would like to use. Maybe build a shut off area away from the gym for this. The gym is for members to train not for selfies & instagram content The gym is now far too busy you can’t get onto equipment & enjoy your workout like you used to be able to Need bigger dumbbells & more weights for barbells Equipment is FAR too close together ie: the pec/fly machine is too close to the leg curl you end up bumping into each other As the gym is now too busy, there is not enough benches for bench press. Pretty disappointing after being a member for so long that it has changed so dramatically. Should be a much cheaper membership now that it’s so busy, it’s on par with city fitness in regards to...
Read moreThis is a great gym with good quality equipment. They've brought in some new equipment (abduction machine, hack squat, lying leg curl) and a vending machine. However, it has recently started to become a bit cramped. The new layout means it's really difficult to move around and use certain machines. Machines have been put in the functional space (which is already quite small) which means only 3-4 people can fit in the space comfortably. There is not enough parking during peak times which means we need to park in spaces that belong to other companies and risk getting towed. The gym is at the perfect capacity during peak where you don't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a machine but it could become crowded if more people join. There used to be 3 sets of the smaller dumbbells (1kg-10kg) and now there is only 1 set of each. A lot of people use them so sometimes you will have to wait for a set to be free. The gym is starting to seem a bit overpriced ($26/week) since Fitness Portal is cheaper ($22.50/week) and has more equipment, more facilities,...
