Reunion BBQ+Bar 大隐烤肉 — Restaurant in Waitematā

I had a very disappointing experience at this dessert buffet. I brought my two children because I don’t eat sweets myself, so only they had the buffet.

The food quality was poor. My children said the cakes were overly sweet, greasy, and I felt it didn’t seem fresh, while the sandwiches were so dry and hard that they couldn’t bite through them. One bacon roll was also tough and difficult to chew. Despite my children’s effort to finish as much as they could, they left less than half of the cake, couldn’t eat the sandwich at all, and left about one-third of the bacon roll.

I tried to communicate politely with the manager on duty and asked if they could contact the owner for some understanding, but I was told the owner was “not available.” Later, in their follow-up email, I discovered that the same manager was actually the owner/director.

They ended up charging us the full item prices for all three leftover dishes, citing their rule that “Any wastage item will be charged per item price.” In their later email, they even accused me of “threatening” them — which is completely untrue and deeply unfair. During the discussion, two male staff members were confronting me, a woman, while my two young children were around me, feeling anxious and scared.

This experience was unpleasant, unprofessional, and upsetting. I hope the management reflects on how to treat customers — especially families with young children — with more fairness, empathy,...

We decided on a last-minute birthday treat for my partner on 26 October 2025, and from the moment we arrived, the experience was nothing short of fantastic. Despite the kitchen preparing to close soon, the staff welcomed us with such warmth and genuine hospitality—it truly made us feel special.

We ordered a selection of BBQ meat cuts, and the manager personally recommended the top sellers. She even gave us tips on how to perfectly sizzle our meat to achieve that irresistible smoky flavor—such a thoughtful touch! What stood out the most was their kindness and patience, letting us enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace without ever feeling rushed, even as they were closing for the night.

Every bite we had was delicious and memorable. From start to finish, the food, the service, and the atmosphere were simply wonderful. A huge shout-out to the staff and the manager for making my partner’s birthday so special. 🥰

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Reunion BBQ in Newmarket, Auckland. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. The meat,seafood and vegetables they served was fresh and the flavors were outstanding — The highlight was the frozen pear for dessert and their pastries, which were flaky, flavorful, and truly delicious.

What really made the visit special was the owner, Stephen and Yanna, who went above and beyond. My wife is vegetarian, and Stephen personally guided us through the menu, making sure she had plenty of excellent vegetarian options. He gave us helpful advice on the best dishes and ensured we were all looked after.
