Cannot recommend the Coh enough! I got trapped in NZ when borders shut - obviously a very stressful experience being stuck with no home, no job and no end date - and then thrown into a long lockdown. Ben at the Coh was absolutely amazing and so supportive through the whole thing, and I really felt relaxed and like everything would be fine. It was such a hard time for the city but the Coh was a stress free place and kept up to date with covid safety as conditions changed. Ben even gave me a lift to warehouse to help me get things I needed as I was stuck without half of my belongings which were en route to Sydney instead.
Rooms and communal areas are super clean and well maintained, building is well managed and everything very professional. The whole set up is just so easy - no stress renting, no fuss, very straightforward and transparent. There's even a rumpus room with TV for working from home/doing home workouts, work stations in corridors for working, a printer, and a movie room with projector! (And the most comfy seats ever). Community here is amazing - I made some life long friends and had so much fun. Very social environment and a great way to meet people if you're new to Auckland. Great location for going out in the CBD too! Ben provided a Sunday roast every week for everyone to have a free meal together, which is just so incredibly thoughtful aswell.
Overall, I feel really lucky to have found a room here, especially at the time I did. I feel like things could have been very hard if I'd ended up anywhere else but luckily I was in a good location allowing me to get a job to tide me over through the lockdown, I felt safe from covid, I was in a clean and safe home and I was with the most amazing bunch of people I could have possibly asked to meet. 10/10 would stay again!
Thank you Ben & Co(h) -...
Read moreThis space was more than just a place to lay my head at night. It became a home. It is a place where friends gather to have fun, Share food, work together and make life long connections. I moved to New Zealand from Canada in the middle of the pandemic by myself and I only intended to stay at the CoH for 4 weeks until I found my own place. However, within a 24 hour period I was so graciously welcomed by the landlord Ben Spence and the other tenants now consider some of my closest friends I decided to stay for the duration of my 6 months stay. Ben does a fantastic job of bringing us together. My favourite part about living here was Sunday roast where he would cook a meal for all of us and we would gather and share stories about our week and make plans for the next. If you are a nurse working in Auckland city hospital or working in the CBD the location is ideal. If you are travelling alone and want to make connections with amazing people from around the world, this is the place. The place is always very clean, the other tenants are very welcoming, and Ben is a very fair, professional and considerate landlord. If you are looking to experience Auckland and make instant but also life-long friends THIS IS THE PLACE! I would recommend this...

Ben, the host, was super helpful even before I arrived, answering all my questions promptly. I got out of the airport earlier than expected and contacted him, and he kindly said not to worry and that I could check in early.
I was traveling with three suitcases and was really worried about how I’d manage them on my own, but Ben carried all of them up to the room for me. He then gave me a full tour, explaining everything—kitchen, living room, bathroom, laundry room, and even fire escape procedures.
The location is fantastic. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the city center, just a 1-minute walk to the nearest bus stop, and perfectly situated between the city and Newmarket, making it super easy to get to either. Even better, places like K Road and Ponsonby—where you’d likely go for drinks or dancing at night—are also within walking distance.
The building is very clean overall. The bathroom was spotless, the room was clean, and the kitchen was incredibly well-equipped. There are plenty of pots, pans, utensils, plates, and bowls. They even have an induction stove, oven, blender, rice cooker, and more—basically, everything you could possibly need. There’s also a dishwasher, which was super convenient.
What I loved most, though, was the people. Everyone was so friendly, and there was this great social vibe where people genuinely got along. We had parties in the evenings, watched movies and TV shows together in the movie room, and even went out to pubs to dance and have cocktails. I had so much fun!
Also There’s a group chat where people post things like, “Who wants to watch a movie tonight?”, “Who’s up for going to the market tomorrow morning?”, or “Who wants to go dancing tonight?” You can join in anytime if you’re interested, and if you feel like resting, you can just skip it—no one minds either way.
That said, if you don’t speak any English at all, it might be a little hard to fit in socially. I’m not fluent in English—just decent enough to hold a conversation—but it was sometimes tricky to join group discussions. Still, during one-on-one or smaller group conversations, I managed just fine. Everyone was so patient and made an effort to understand me, which I really appreciated.
I was hesitant at first because I didn’t see any reviews from Korean travelers on Google or Airbnb, but I ended up choosing this place because a lot of the hostels in the city had reviews mentioning bedbugs or poor cleanliness. Choosing this hostel was absolutely the right decision!
Korean travelers, don’t hesitate to book this place! Even for someone picky like me, everything was comfortable, clean, and easy. It’s a rare find. :)
Oh, and the view from the window?...
