Great place if you like bloody steaks and duck breasts. I'm sure it was cooked to perfection for a gourmet but I am just not a fan of blood running off my food. Not just pink, this was red. I tried to take the waiters offer to refry some of it but it seemed like he forgot or was just overworked. He was friendly enough but never came to ask me how the food was, and I had allready told him I wanted well done meat. The perfect irony was the overcooked chocolate fondant, tasty but not runny. We were 16 people, having to share the food even if the waiter took our individual steak orders. My table of 8 shared 3 steaks and 3 duck breasts, pluss tiny bowls of sides. Since the waiter never seemed to have time to come to the table after he had brought all the bowls and I had my back to the room, my meal consisted of whatever sides I could get: 1/2 carrot, 3/4 potato and 1/4 gem salad. It tasted very good but it left me with a gnawing belly. Longest two hour meal this year (probably ever). They certainly nailed the abattoir atmosphere, with the raw meat on the table filling the air, literally. I was relieved when the waiter finally came to take the food away after an hour, the smell beginning to overwhelm me. As a side note, I grew up on a farm and I am accustomed to dealing with meat, from barn to plate, but this smell, from 6 bloody meat dishes, was uncomfortable in a dinner setting. Maybe because I didn't get to eat much. Maybe I should have worked harder to get the, friendly but busy, waiters attention, but I didn't want to cause any trouble or ruin it for anyone else in my group. I did try to ask for a refry, as he suggested. I also heard him laugh when I commented that "I'll just have to eat veg then", so I kinda got the feeling he knew about my situation and I felt that I was the one customer he just didn't have time to cater to. I don't get to go out to dinner often, so this will not be on my list of dinner options next time. Too bad, I kinda liked the concept but I don't like leaving a restaurant hungry and ignored. The stars goes to the the tasty veg, the chocolate cake and the waiter that tried....
Read moreWe were super excited to visit Nitty Gritty as we had heard many good things about the place, its steaks and cocktails in particular.
We arrived a bit early and the service was little overwhelmed, because the one table we booked while being without customers was not cleaned of plates and glasses. After 10min we got our table and checked menu and noticed that of the meat choices on the chalkboard quite many weren’t available (no tomahawk at all) which given it was a Friday evening at 8 was very surprising.
We made our orders to a very friendly, but little awkward (loud) waiter, and got good cocktails and softdrinks for the kids with spectacular ice cubes but underwhelming glasses for the cocktails.
In the absence (!) of choices for kids the service agreed to just serve a burger with fries, which seemed nice, however we were charged the higher and full prize (300 NOK) of the two offered burgers on the menu for a patty, 1 piece of meat and potato wedges…seems very greedy given the overall very high prizes.
The food arrived 35min after we ordered.
The most disappointing experience was, however, the meat: I ordered a 300g entrecôte medium and it arrived precut and in the middle rare, which naturally made it unchewable.
I complained and returned the meat and did not have to pay for it, which was the decent thing to do by the service. I was not the only one that evening who returned the meat.
Overall a disappointing experience given the very nice interior, the outstanding side dishes...
Read moreIt was my second time visiting this restaurant, and I was really looking forward to it because my first experience was amazing. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly. However, this time, I felt extremely disappointed, furious, and discriminated against. Despite having made a reservation a few days ago, we were the first ones to arrive and sit down. Naturally, I expected to receive the menu or some water. To my surprise, we were the last table to be given the menu, the server took orders from other tables before attending to us, which is totally fine. What I found unacceptable was that she made sure that every table received a glass of water, except for ours. We waited patiently for 45 minutes, desperately trying to make eye contact with her (which wasn't easy, given their busyness). Even when we finally got the eye contact, she continued to ignore us, prioritizing other customers, and even delivering beers to their tables. Ultimately, after waiting for 45 minutes, we still hadn't been given the opportunity to place our order or a...
