Risa Thai Massage — Local services in Chiang Mai Province

Was here in Chiang Mai for a week and was determined to try a different massage place each night. Not the least expensive places nor the most...but mid-cost places ie 300-400b per hour. Risa was my pick on the first night (one hour foot and neck/shoulder thai massage for I think 300b), and then I had a series of massages at other places that just didn't measure up. A few pretty good, one just very different, (just lots of pressing on various areas of my body) and one that was super disappointing (felt rushed/perfunctory). On my last night I just gave up and went back to Risa. I was lucky to have Nand once again and she did a lovely job on my 90 mins massage with mixture of thai and oil massage (600b). She found all the spots that bother me regularly and worked on them carefully but with persistence and a strength that surprised me from such a petite person. This is a workout for the recipient AND the masseuse! The space is clean and soothing, with foot wash to start and a set of loose fitting top and bottoms (for those of us who show up in a tank dress) with tea and cookies at the end. I felt very well cared for and would come back to Risa again and again if I had more time here in CNX. Additional praise: that first night I dragged along my spouse who was skeptical at best that he would enjoy or feel comfortable getting a massage...and Risa was the "gateway "for him to seek out daily massages the rest...

Like many others, we trusted the reviews for this massage parlour, but the reality was shockingly opposite. I explicitly asked the receptionist if it was okay for my baby to wait outside with my husband, and she sweetly assured us it was fine. However, once my massage began, her attitude did a complete 180. She started harassing my husband, constantly ordering him to move around and sit in different places. My baby cooed a little—not crying, mind you—but she ridiculously deemed it a disturbance and demanded my husband leave because her precious other customers were apparently getting “disturbed.”

This was hands down the worst experience ever. I was stuck inside with no idea what was happening with my baby, completely helpless. And when we confronted her behavior, she showed no remorse whatsoever. In fact, she had the audacity to justify her actions by saying she had to “think of her business.”

What’s laughable is that there were other customers sitting outside, loudly sipping tea, chatting, and laughing, which apparently wasn’t a problem for her “business.” Not to mention, there were other kids inside the parlour with their parents too. This woman is a fake, pretentious, and utterly inhuman individual. Avoid this place at all...

I got 1 hr body scrub for 500 baht and it was nice and relaxing, decently priced as well. My friend got the whole back oil massage for 500 baht. My masseuse was super nice and attentive.

My stars are more pertaining to my overall experience, NOT the massage. They never gave us foot baths that was described as free in the menu. They didn’t give us an explanation either. They just made us go straight into the massage rooms to wait for our masseuses. Also, I think there should be a curtain between the massage room to the shower rooms, because I was all naked except for a towel yet the whole street...
